You must be talking about the door handle itself. The rod connects the door handle to the door latch. The plastic clip when snapped onto the rod will keep the rod from coming out of the hole in the door handle where it attaches. Is it the handle that is broke or the clip?
This is a common and easily fixed problem. The door should NOT be opened after the wash is completed. You have to wait for AT LEAST 2 minutes to try the door, do not use force. There is a built in mechanism for most front loaders to delay the door opening, so be patient. If you have used force you have already damaged the door lock, so replace. You are lucky if the door can be opened after the lock sign goes off - otherwise you just have to change the door lock. Click if helped.
This iis very coomon, the part of the handle that broke is the part that releases the latch, you will need to replace the handle, the inside door panel needs to be removed to replace the handle, some of these are revited on and you will need to drill out revits from the outside and disconnect the linkage from the inside, hope this is helpful.
1. Unplug the power cord from the outlet. 2. Remove the front lower kick panel. 3. Reach up along the inside of the front panel and locate the bottom of the door latch assembly. 4. Located on the bottom of the door latch assembly is a tear-drop shaped tab. 5. Gently pull the tab down about quarter inch or until a click is heard. 6. The door may now be opened
Or pull out your dispenser tray, along the rear edge you will find a cord, pull this like above. Depends on your model. Try these sites for spares: RepairClinic.com espares.co.uk AppliancePartsPros.com mcminone.com
Seems like the door switch is failing, or failed.
wpecially if a front loader, the door has to be closed, and register on the circuit as closed before the machine will start.
they are cheap and easy to replace, most of the time, but cant give instructions for an unknown whirlpool other than
take front panel off
replace door switch
replace front panel
