I am using Belkin wireless Router and i have two computers
with wireless adapters.can my wireless network be protected
from neibourghs using or attacking it? please some one guide
me through setting up a security !please give clear step by step instuctions as i am not very good at using computers!
thank you !
Alright... it does depend on the model of belkin itself but here goes... assuming you have windows since most people with mac are QUITE familiar with PCs
Open an Internet Explorer window on your computer and type in http://192.168.2.1 in the address bar. This will take you to the Belkin router's web based configuration page. You will get a login page. Leave the password blank. Click Submit .On the left side of the page, click Channel and SSID below Wireless . .
set it to have a wireless password... (again the exacts depend on your model) by doing this a computer must have that password you made to access the connection..
now depending on you computers operating system(ie: windows 95,98,200,ME,NT,XP vista or a mac) will depend on how you put this "password" into your computer...
windows- START-CONTROL PANEL-(network and internet options)NETWORK CONNECTIONS-VIEW AVAILABLE WIRELESS NETWORKS and when you try to reconnect to your internet connection you will be prompted for the password...
IF however your wireless adapters have their own wireless clients then you will have to contact their tech support instead of that last paragraph
heres the number to belkin tech support in case your router will not allow you into the interface
1 800 2BELKIN x2263

To enable the wireless connection, you need to access the setup page of the router.
In your browser's address bar, type 192.168.2.1.
By default, leave the password blank.
On the Belkin setup page, go to Wireless.
You may change the SSID (wireless network name), so that you can easily identify which is your network.
Then go to Security under Wireless. You can use either WEP or WPA, depending on the capabilities of your wireless adapter. If you are not sure, you may use the standard wireless security which is WEP. Just enter a passphrase and it will generate a network key.
Take note of the network key, you will use this to all your wireless computers.
the security key will be stored in the wireless router or the person who has the router
the work of the belkin adapter is to only receive the wireless network in and around the computer when plug-ed in
Are you trying to secure the wireless network then you will need to access the router setup. is there any computer connected to the router? if not then you will need to connect the computer to the router. once you open the router setup, you will see the option of secure the network click Here for step by step solution
when enabling wireless security the router and adapter must be both be configured and configured in a fashion that both support. If you need help provide confirmation of your wireless router's manufacturer and model and the same information for any wireless adapters or computers with built-in wireless adapters to be wirelessly connected.
This will allow us to determine the common security options for all wireless devices you have.
