My internet was down, and I fixed that problem, and proceeded to install Norton anti-virus on it. Now, all of a sudden, the computer will boot up, but it freezes as soon as it gets to the main desktop screen. It won't respond at all. I have to manually shut it down by holding down the power button. Only to start it back up and it do the same thing ALL OVER AGAIN?$#%>@^? Anyways......after leaving out to dinner, I came back and now the computer screen is completely BLACK! But it is still booting up. WTF? I have never seen anything like this. HELP!!!
Assuming you are using windows xp. 1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process. 2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus. 3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer. Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer. As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.
