HELP!!! Computer stopped working when anit-virus was installed?????
My internet was down, and I fixed that problem, and proceeded to install Norton anti-virus on it. Now, all of a sudden, the computer will boot up, but it freezes as soon as it gets to the main desktop screen. It won't respond at all. I have to manually shut it down by holding down the power button. Only to start it back up and it do the same thing ALL OVER AGAIN?$#%>@^? Anyways......after leaving out to dinner, I came back and now the computer screen is completely BLACK! But it is still booting up. WTF? I have never seen anything like this. HELP!!!
Assuming you are using windows xp.
1. Boot up into windows safe mode by pressing the "F8" key during boot process.
2. Choose "Safe Mode without networking" on the menu and after entering your desktop a pop-up will appear telling you that you are using windows safe mode, just press "OK" then uninstall Norton Anti-Virus.
3. Shut-down and/or reboot computer.
Another alternative would be to boot into safe mode and perform a system restore. If you choose to do this, you still need to uninstall Norton Anti-Virus because a system restore will only fix just system files not programs that were installed. In other words, you will have a partial installation of Norton Anti-Virus in your computer.
As to why this happened, could be a compatability issue with the use of Norton and some other program. Good luck.

delete norton from your computer and install AVAST INTERNET SECURITY 5 OR AVIRA PREMIUM SECURITY 10 your mind will be free of problems if you want the links send me an email DONT FORGET TO RATE
if you want my honest opinion i would wipe Norton from your system as it is useless and inevitably wrecks your computer, i would suggest you download the latest AVG virus protection software and the latest update of spyware doctor, i work in a rental company and these are the 2 virus protection programs we run on all our systems and they haven't failed us yet there easy to use and update
Hi there Thats Norton for you! this is a very heavy and memory hungry program, it takes control of your computer and if you have not got enough system or virtual memory it will cause the pc all kinds of problems. To fix this either upgrade the system memory or don't use Norton, use AVG free instead, its a lighter program and lets you have some speed back over the internet.
oh man surly there is a virus in your computer. but don.t worry.firstly uninstall your antiv virus and install a powerfull one like KESPERSKY ANTIVIRUS.Really it is very powerfull.just try it once.if your computer had got most effecte in the meantimet then try this

Bro, my suggestion is, you uninstall you Norton Anti-virus including the Symantec folder installation then install one that is free but can still perform as good as Norton. I am not saying NOrton Anti-Virus is a bad program but, it is systemic and slows down your computer a bit. Norton is a great product everybody kows that !!!! What i can share with you is that, try downloading AVG free or AVAST home edition for which, if you are connected to your net, they regularly send updates to your computer as long as you are registered and your key is up to date. If your Norton Anti-virus is notactivating, it only means one thing, it's not updated.
In my experience Norton can become flakey at times. Make sure your subscription to norton has not expired. Otherwise try un-installing norton and re-installing it. Part of it may have become corrupted.
Yes you need to uninstall any and all antivirus programs installed on your computer. After uninstalling, make sure to reboot your computer. Do that for each antivirus or internet security software you have installed. Once done, it Norton 360 should install. If you have troubles uninstalling AVG, check their support area on their website. I'm not sure if you have a paid version or the free version but here are the sites for both.
