Question about RCA HD52W140 52" Rear Projection Television
No one seems to know what the problem is. I have sent my RCA HD52W140 (ATC311A chassis)4 times and had $1,000 in replacement parts (under warranty at time). It still has problems. When I turn it on I have a great picture. After a few seconds the picture turns bright red and then shuts off. I pulled the CRT board and swapped it with the blue and the green CRT boards. The problem then moves to the CRT I moved the board to. All of the CRT's appear good since when i swap the boards the only one that turns bright is the one that has the board in question. I tried to get a replacment board but RCA doesn't make the part anymore. Instead I had to send back the board to be rebuilt. When I got it back the same problem was there. It has to be something about the board. Is there something I'm missing? Nobody seems to have a solution. I have been trying to figure it out for about six months. I have already replaced the tv. But I hate not being able to figure this out. My parents originally owned it then gave it to me after they replaced it.
If this problem is still unsolved, I believe the problem may well be a grounding issue, possibly in the power supply, but more likely in the two boards that do not fire up, maybe a broken PCB track or solder joint, possibly a through-board grounding screw that is incorrectly installed. If you could take a picture installed, and uninstalled front and back of one of the boards and post it back we could maybe get a clearer idea. Hope this helps :)

Ok what you need to do is to swap the drive wires from the bad board with another good board. swap every wire except the larges wire going into the crt socket. this will eliminate the board if it follows the drive wires to another board. Your problem could ten be from the focus screen pack, that is the block with all the three focus controls and the screen controls on it.And if you swap those screen wires, and still have this problem you will have to check the RGB voltage at the video jungle IC. Good Luck

OK, what you need to do, is take the bad board, mark where every wire goes disconnect the wires, take the blue board and take thoise wit=res and solder them to the red board and then the wires that were on the red board solder to the blue board. But leave the boards at their proper place, ig red board on the red cRT but has the blue wires attached, and the blue board on the blue CRT but has the red board wires attached. Then if the problem follows to the blue tube, you know the problem is in the screen or RGB drive circuit. If the same red tube has a problem, someone did a lousy job fixing your board.
Leave the board and change all of the wires
all of them

Hello, actually there can be a few solutions. 1. Replace R14705. Also check HV splitter and deflection board components. 2. Check connections at C14703. 3. [Crack in HV splitter] Replace resistor and check Q14401. If this does not help, please advice. Best regards, Arpi

There are some transistors on the board that reads good when tested but under load they fail replace all of the transistors and diodes that will take care of your problem.good luck.

1. Replace R14705. Also check HV splitter and deflection board components.
2. Check connections at C14703.
3. [Crack in HV splitter] Replace resistor and check Q14401.
Does anyone have a diagram of these.
The HV splitter has been replaced and still looks good. If the HV splitter was bad wouldn't it affect any board in the same position? The problem always follows this one board.

I need this in laymans terms. All of this advice sounds good, but I need it in terms I can understand.
None of the wires are soldered to the board. There are four wire plugs. 2 ribbon cables(one 16 wire, one 6 wire. One 3 wire plug(one to GND, one to focus screen box, one to wire strap around CRT. One 2 wire plug(grn and wht wires attached to tube at bottom of CRT. And then the focus wire attached to CRT socket. I have disconnected all plugs from the board in question and moved the board to a different CRT and reconnected the plugs from the CRT i moved it to onto the board I swapped. The board was on the red CRT. Now it is on the blue CRT connected to all the wires for the blue CRT and the problem is now with the blue CRT. The red CRT which now has the board from the blue CRT is working fine now.
I understand what you are saying about leaving the board where it is and switching just the wires from a different CRT board with it. But do I switch all of the wires or just the 3 wire plug and the color spacific 6 wire ribbon cable? If it helps the part number on the board is 258504.
