My 360 wont read any dvds cds or games wat do i do?
Forget everything you have read.
There are 3 reasons why your drive has failed.
1 Most common is a weak or dead laser . Their cheap and not
hard to install yourself . I have never seen a dirty laser , this
is due to the high RPM of the drive 99% of the dust is swept
aside.
2 The spindle motor has seized up or to stiff to spin up.
You can easily determine this by turning it by hand or
listening for it to spin up when you place a disk in the
console.
3 The worm gear motor pin bearing is worn . This will
normalize make a whining sound when it trys to seek
game data from the disk
Remedy for problem # 1 is to replace the laser.
Remedy for problem # 2 is to replace the drive and put
the old drives P.C. board in the new drive.
and the same for problem # 3

Well I told you what all of the possible problems could be and
then gave recommendations with explanations and offered
further assistance and or to answer any specific qustions you
may have had regarding your drive and rather than just leave the rating
blank for my advice you would go out of your way to leave negative
feed back??? kinda sad that some people don't appreciate honest
Free professional advice . I would have been willing and able to resolve
your problem if you had just thought to ask.

I had this same problem a year after I purchased my first Xbox 360. Most of the time this problem is due to dust and dirt getting sucked into the system by the terrible cooling system that the older Xbox 360s have. If your Xbox 360 is over 2 years old then most likely this is your problem. these Xboxes are made to stand up not lay down so if yours is laying down try tilting it upright and play it that way. This fixes the problem 80% of the time. You can also try to blow into some of the openings on your Xbox to get the dirt and dust out but I must admit this rarely works. If after trying both of these things you still have the problem, then it must be fixed by opening up the Xbox and determining the problem with the laser or disk drive. This costs time and money so you better hope that my first two solutions work!

Don't know if I'm telling you something you already know buddy , but the Xbox360 user manual specifically says "Do NOT use a CD laser cleaning disk" I had a problem with my 360 see post "disk read errors" (still unsolved) I ended up buying a new 360 but then took my old one apart and tryed cleaning lenz with cotton bud and tricloroethane - to no avail

If your xbox says (unplayable disc) and no disc plays including dvd, mp3, etc. then you do have a fatal hardware flaw in the disc drive. This should be covered under the new 3 year extended warranty. This problem is rumored to be caused by two things,1 cheap disc drives, 2 live update which was trying to ban modded 360s for xbox live friendly fired on alot of innocent disc drives with bad firmware.....but this should be covered, give em a call

Those "do not use cd laser cleaning disk" you always read are for company s.o.p. only. Here in the Philippines we always use the "other method" that works!! company services here are bad!!! Regular use ( once a day only) of cleaning disk (the one that DONOT use liquid solution) are good, Note that it is effective only when your cd rom is clean!!! Huhhh? Because cleaning takes place only during playback mode, if the unit cant play it cant clean either, so clean it once a day regularly. its like sweeping the floor of your house before you start a day. Back to your problem, try to open the cd rom unit and manually clean using a cotton bud , avoid pressing too much force on the round bluish optical lens.

If any one has tried hacking the drive, the drive could be half bricked making the eject feature work but rendering the drive unable to read anything. You can buy certain drives and reflash them to work in your xbox. I have one flashed to think it is an xbox in my computer so it will unlock the game particians allowing me to back up games I bought. I beleive in supporting the developers so we continue to get great games!!

I was playing skate 2 last night before i went to bed. I came back the next morning to play it, it didnt read the disk. I thought nothing of it and came back to the xbox this afternoon to find the same problem. I tried puttin in other games and a dvd (red vs blue). But still, no result. I have already sent it away once so im assuming it isnt realated to any system error and has something to do with the hardware?
