Does a repairman need to replace the coolent? If yes, are there any repair shops in the Washington, DC/Virginia area that you recommend?
This might sound funny but is it pluged in? I would also ask, is it running? Does it cool at all? Is the compressor working? If it tries to come on does it start up or just buzz or hum and shut off? If is running I would look at the back, there might be to much dust bunnies back there. Turn off the electrit to it and vacuum it out.
Back to your first question.. yes a repairman does need to charge the unit if it has infact lost the freon. If it has lost it's gas, freon, then it should be charged with nitrogen before being charged with freon to find the leak and then vacuumed down to remove any moisture in the system.
But yes, you will need a repairman to put freon back in the unit. And sorry I do know of any repair people up in DC.
