Black does not work after multiple head cleanings

My black nozzel check does not improve after I have cleaned the head several times. The color is fine, but I've run the head cleaning so many times I'm low on ink.

When I print a Word document I get now black text at all. When I B&W scan I get faint and broken black results.

Color works fine on printing or scanning documents.

It sounds like the black nozzle is clogged. I am not sure if that is a part that is end user serviceable. Best bet would be to call Epson and see if it is something you could repair or if they need to have you send the unit to them. Sorry.

Yellow ink will not print

You may have blocked yellow print head nozzles.

Try the printer maintenance to clear the printer nozzles.
After several deep cleaning attempts and there is no improvements in the printthen a new print head is required.
A new print head maybe expensive and it maybe more cost effective to purchase anew printer.
The Print head will contain all the nozzels for all the different colors so you cannot just replace a single color print head nozzels.

It won't print black ink even with new cartridge and multiple cleanings

Hello, and thanks for using FixYa.

Sounds like the print head carrier, the printerhead has its black cartridge nozzles blocked, due to dryed up ink. Remove the back cartridge and Check the area under it, does there appear to be wet ink? if there is, then the cartridge is working but the nozzles are blocked. If the print head is removeable you might try to sink the bottom a bit in warm water to get the ink to dissolve from the nozzels. It should print after that.

just make sure the head is clean and dry before placing it back into the printer.

let me know how you get along with it.

Epsonr220 does not print megenta or light megenta colors

The problem seems to be the printhead nozzels are plugged or burntout. I beleive on the Epson, to remove the printhead for cleaning, you must partially disassemble the printer. If you are not up for this, Quit here. If you game, remove the cartridges and tape over the outlet and air hole of each. I find electrical tape the best. Tape snugly but not too tight and once around the cart. If you have a digital camera or a webcam, take photos along the way to help in re-assembly. Remove the drive belt and disconnect the guide rod the printhead slides on at each end. Try and remove the guide rod and print head as one unit. Use alcohol and/or water to clean the print head nozzels, or completely wash the print head with running water. Blow it off and let dry. Put the guide rod back in the print head and put that assembly back in the printer. Attach the guide rod at each end then put the belt back in place. Put the cartridges back and do a nozzel/print head check. If the printer works completely, then you are set. If the magenta still doesn't work, the nozzels may be burnt out. I don't think you can get Epson Print heads, That means a new printer. Lastly DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK. I can't even guarantee my work!

I was having problems with a black line on the edge. I ran several clean cycles and got the line to disappear and now the colors have except for black have stopped working. HELP!

If you have carried out 4 to 5 head cleans, waited about 8 hours anddone another 3 or head cleans doing nozzle checks after each clean (asrecommended by the manual) and there is still no improvement then youwill need a third party head cleaning solution such as this one:
http://websites.uk-plc.net/UK_Inkjet_Cartridges_PLUS/products/Print_Head_Cleaner.htm
Other makes & brands are available just google "inkjet head cleaning solution" Hope this helps.

Cleaning the nozzle

Firstly note that this won't work if you have any error lights on.
Turn on the printer.
Press the Setup Mode (screwdriver) button to enter the Setup Mode.
Press the A button (top left of the LCD Screen), or one of the Arrow buttons, repeatedly until "4.Head Cleaning" appears on the LCD screen, and then press the Color button (green with diamond shape on it).
Cleaning of the print head starts and "Head cleaning" appears on the LCD screen. After each clean perform a nozzle check to confirm that the head is clean and to reset the cleaning cycle.
Note:
If the print quality has not improved after repeating this procedure four or five times, turn this product off and leave it alone overnight. Then repeat head cleaning and nozzle checks if necessary.
If the print quality still has not improved, you may need a third party head cleaning fluid such as this one:
http://www.powerklin.co.uk/?gclid=CNGDypir-JgCFQ4yQgodZlC4lw
Other brands are available just try googling for "inkjet head cleaning fluid".
To maintain the print quality, you should print a few pages at least once a month.
Please take a moment to rate this solution. Thanks.

Printing light colors does not work

You RINSED the printhead???

I wouldn't do that again.

Try taking a damp cloth and dabbing it against the printhead nozzels until you get lines forming on the rage from the ink (the nozzels you're having trouble with specifically).

Printer won't print

If the ink is too low the head cleaning won't work. Also, I have had to do the cleaning functions several times for it to work. Will it print a test page? Look in to reinstalling a print driver.
