Question about Microtek SCANMAKER 4850 Flatbed Scanner
I am trying to clean the glass on a Microtek 4850. I need to know how to open the case. The Microtek support downloads do not contain the information for that chassis model. Note that I have opened the upper end, but cannot see how the lower end is connected. I have tried pushing the upper end off as well as gently prying the lower end. Both without success so far.
Opening a Tevion(Microtek)3200: thanks for the paperclip tip! That gets us in. Then the straightened wire coat-hanger slipped through the front corners finishes the job. The clips are on the base this time, about 2.5 inches from the corners set in about half an inch from the joint. They hook into loops on the top panel and have to be levered the opposite way to the paper-clip ones, that is, towards the joint. The top still remains attached by the ribbon cable,I undid the 4 self-tappers affixing the front switch plate, also maybe as well to lock the mechanism before you start: turn the little orange screw underneath with a 20p piece or a dime or ten centimes (I'm sorry, I don't know the sterling /yuan exchange rate) ,Happy New Year, Redpath

These things are made not to be opened. As they are sealed in manufacture I cannot see why you should want to clean the glass from the inside.

late reply, on the 5900 there are 2 small holes where the connectors plug in. the holes are small about 2 mm about half inch from the top and about 2 inches in. you need to poke a thick paper clip in here while using a screw driver to divide the lid and body, separate one side then the other.
once you have both sides lifted, use some medium force and pull the mid
section loose on both sides. (here is where i get stuck) i can't figure out the rest however there is now enough space to clean the glass from the inside.
i used a car wax \ cleaner as a thin film of wax will keep dust from settling inside and the wax keeps smudges to a minimum. put everything back by
applying pressure both sides to pop the top back onto the body.
I do this every year or so... don't pull the lid too far apart... you should only get about 4 inches max and i blow the inside with can air before closing the scanner back up.
hope it helps... if you figure out how to remove the whole lid...let me know.

Why would I want to open it up and clean it????? ......It gets dirty on the inside and this negatively affects the quality of the scan.
Why else would I want to open it up?
