Question about Samsung SyncMaster 913N 19" LCD Monitor
I have had the same problemen ( I am from the Netherlands ). Used this monitor for 2 years and a couple of weeks ago, the screen went black and it showed the same warning ( 'not optimum mode. Recommended mode : 1280 x1024 60Hz'). This happened after changing the resolution to 1024x768, but the screen kept showing the error after changing back the resolution. Since that moment the screen was black and never worked again properly. When I called the Samsung Helpdesk, they said that this series ( 913N ) have a defect, which could cause the monitor to stop working properly. You should call the service centre and see if it should be repaired, while you still have warranty. Big chance that the problem is IN the monitor and not in the software or settings.

Kathryn, In the lower left, under the screen there is a row of buttons... One is labled "AUTO" have you tried pressing auto and if so does anything happen?? If not try pressing "MENU" first and then "AUTO"... What we are attempting to do is to get the monitor to accept the current settings so we can get the screen up and then deal with changing the resolution... In a Windows operating system the resolution is changed by going to "START" - "SETTINGS" - "CONTROL PANEL" - "DISPLAY" and in that window click on the "SETTINGS" tab and reset your resolution. This one might take some better communication that emails - because it would be easier to know in real-time how the monitor is reacting as you input various things... You can give me a call at 360-642-4993 or we can set-up a live chat. I'm assuming since you were able to place this post you have a second computer to work from? Bill
