Hi Rene,

I am sorry to hear that your DC16 handheld seems to have a short runtime.

This issue is generally the result of the filters needing to be washed or not being seated properly in the machine. If the machine is being used regularly, the filters should be washed monthly otherwise it will impact the performance of the machine.

To inspect the filters follow the steps below:

Remove the canister and separate the nozzle from the main body of the machine by pressing the silver button on the top of the machine.

Remove the pre-filter.

There are two portions to the washable pre-filter a blue sponge and a white scrim that has blue plastic.

In the lower right hand corner of the blue plastic is a small silver disc. Opposite of the small silver disc is a hole that should slip onto a molded plastic post in the main body of the machine.

While holding the handle of the machine in your right hand locate and lift up on the small "lip" on the left-hand side of the main body where the vents are.

The rectangular blue sponge is your post motor filter.

These filters should be washed once a month in cold water (no soap) and left to dry at room temperature for 24 hours or more.

If any gray is visible on any part of the filters they need to be washed.

When replacing the pre-filter into the machine it is important that the blue sponge face away from the motor and the small silver disc on the white portion be positioned in the lower corner of the main body.

If the steps above do not fully resolve the problem, please call us directly at 0800 298 0298 (UK) or 1-866-693-9766 (US).

Best wishes,

Jessica

SOURCE: My Dyson DC16 usually

Your battery is losing voltage too quick. It has probably developed a 'memory'. Dyson claims that their handheld has the best suction out of all the handhelds out there. In order to maintain that claim the circuit board will shut off power to the motor when the voltage drops below adequate charge for full suction.
We need someone who can teach us to bypass that part of the circuit so it won't cut power to the motor or you need to get a new battery.
Shorting the battery like an Aircraft battery then re-charging won't fix it.

I have Dyson dc16 vacuum and it doesn't want to charge. Once I put it on charge the red led is on, but in 30 sec it start flashing. Manual says it means the battery is out of t° range, but it's not.

every possibility is that the battery is out of temp range and that is determined by the current flow from the charger
If the battery is faulty , the charge rate is out of parameters and the charger unit reads that as out of temp range
Take the charger and the battery to an accredited battery shop and have them both checked out
If still under warranty take them both to an accredited service agent for the test and warranty replacement

UNIT WILL ONLY RUN FOR FEW SECONDS THEN THE BOTTOM OF THE 3 LIGHTS WILL FLASH

Hi there,

I'm sorry to hear you're having difficulties with your DC16. A single flashing red light indicates that the battery needs to be recharged. When fully charged, all 3 LEDs should illuminate without flashing. However, if the red light continues to flash even after at least 3 hours recharging time, there may be a fault with the battery or charger assembly.

Please get in touch with us directly - one of our experts will be happy to run through some troubleshooting over the phone with you to determine whether the battery or the charger requires replacement. You can call us free on 08002980298 (UK), or 1866MYDYSON (US). We'll look forward to hearing from you.

Kind regards,

Hi its Darran at Dyson.

From your description of the problem, it sounds as though there is a problem with the battery.

Your DC16 will have been supplied with a 2 year guarantee. If it still within this period, please contact our Helpline on 0800 298 0298. However if your machine is no longer covered, a replacement battery can be purchased via our website at www.dyson.co.uk/store.

My DC16 will start and then stop. I have to take

My DC16 also had charging problems. I called Dyson and they sent a new charger. The old charger only produced 23.6 volts DC, not the rated 28 volts DC. The new charger has a thicker round wire and produces 28.1 volts DC. Put a volt meter on your charger terminals and see if it is producing enough voltage to fully charge the battery, 28 volt DC. If not you need a new charger.
