My HP 2550L suddenly has started to print a single line of garbage on a page, eject the page and repeat the same thing on the next page instead of printing photos. It worked fine until two days ago.
I believe this has something to do with encoding, as I had the problem when I initially purchased the printer and had to change the print encoding in Photoshop to make it work. I have tried all four types of encoding offered (ASCII, binary, ASCII8xx and JPEG), but get the same result.
I had to install the driver three times before it worked. First I reinstalled the driver from the MacOS X Install disk, removed the printer and reinstalled it (in Printer Setup). Then I installed what was supposed to be an updated driver from the HP site (listed as version 5.5.2). No Joy. I reinstalled the same driver and this time it worked.
Mac System Profiler still lists the driver as version 5.4.012.I had to install the driver three times before it worked. I'm having the same problem and am thinking that it is a virus. i'm going to try and reinstall the printer and see if that helps.I'm having the same problem and am thinking that it is a virus. i'm going to try and reinstall the printer and see if that helps.

This sounds like a driver issue, the wrong driver may be in use or may be corrupted. Go into Control Panel > Printers and delete the printer, then reinstall it using the drivers that came with the printer.
Let me know how it works out!
