Prints lines of garbage

My HP 2550L suddenly has started to print a single line of garbage on a page, eject the page and repeat the same thing on the next page instead of printing photos. It worked fine until two days ago. I believe this has something to do with encoding, as I had the problem when I initially purchased the printer and had to change the print encoding in Photoshop to make it work. I have tried all four types of encoding offered (ASCII, binary, ASCII8xx and JPEG), but get the same result.

I reinstalled the printer and the drivers but I still get the same results

I had to install the driver three times before it worked. First I reinstalled the driver from the MacOS X Install disk, removed the printer and reinstalled it (in Printer Setup). Then I installed what was supposed to be an updated driver from the HP site (listed as version 5.5.2). No Joy. I reinstalled the same driver and this time it worked.

Mac System Profiler still lists the driver as version 5.4.012.

I'm having the same problem and am thinking that it is a virus. i'm going to try and reinstall the printer and see if that helps.

This sounds like a driver issue, the wrong driver may be in use or may be corrupted. Go into Control Panel > Printers and delete the printer, then reinstall it using the drivers that came with the printer. Let me know how it works out!
