How do I scan an item and send a copy to a friendI am using a Photosmart C5280 printer

Please follow the steps below to do a clean installation of your scanner.

The first thing we need to do is remove any files that have been installed and start with a fresh installation.

1) RIGHT-CLICK on the MY COMPUTER icon and click on PROPERTIES.
2) Select the HARDWARE tab, then the DEVICE MANAGER button.
3) Remove the Epson Scanner from under IMAGING DEVICE and/or UNKNOWN and/or OTHER DEVICES by RIGHT-CLICKING on it and clicking UNINSTALL.
4) Disconnect the USB cable and close all open windows.
5) Click on START, and CONTROL PANELS.
6) Double-click on ADD/REMOVE PROGRAMS. Highlight EPSON SCAN and click on CHANGE/REMOVE.
7) Restart your computer.

DOWNLOAD

Please follow the steps below to download and install your scanner in XP:
1. Go to the website http://support.epson.com
2. Under the SCANNERS heading select PERFECTION SERIES and then your scanner model.
3. Under the Drivers & Downloads section select Windows.(Make sure it is the Epson Scan utility. Download the most current version of the Scanner Driver for your Windows operating system to your DESKTOP.

Reinstall

1) Double Click on the Epson1**.exe file that you downloaded to your DESKTOP.
2) Click OK, Unzip, and then OK again.
3) The installer will copy the files to the system. Click on FINISH when prompted.
4) Connect the USB cable. Windows will tell you new hardware is found and complete the install.
5) If a message appears indicating THE SCANNER HAS NOT PASSED WINDOWS LOGO TESTING, click CONTINUE ANYWAY. Then click FINISH.
6) Your scanner is now ready to use.

Use the following steps to scan with the Epson Scan utility:
1. Open Epson Scan by going into START, PROGRAMS, and EPSON SCAN.
2. If prompted, select your scanner from the list of models and click OK.
3. In the FILE SAVE SETTINGS window, you can designate the location, name and type of file the scans will be saved as.

-LOCATION defaults to MY DOCUMENTS. Click BROWSE if you wish to change this.
-PREFIX determines how the scan will be named. Type any name you like. You can also designate a start number.
-FILE TYPE dictates what format the scans will be saved in. ie. .JPG, .TIFF, .PDF, or .PICT)
-For example: if the prefix is "img", the start number is "1", and the format is "JPG", the name of the file saved in
PICTURES will be "IMG001.JPG". More settings for file format are found under OPTIONS.

  1. Click OK once settings are changed as desired.
  2. The EPSON SCAN window will open and begin scanning in FULL AUTO MODE. In FULL AUTO MODE the software makes all the decisions for you (as to what is being scanned, where it is on the flatbed, etc). This is the easiest way to scan.
  3. If you want full control over the scanning process click PAUSE and change FULL AUTO MODE to HOME MODE or PROFESSIONAL MODE. In the latter two modes you can change your scan settings as desired. Click SCAN after you have selected your settings. Click CLOSE once the EPSON SCAN is finished scanning.
  4. When scanning is complete, your images will be saved in the location specified on FILE SAVE SETTINGS, with the prefix and in the format you set.
  5. Now you can use them in mail and send to your friend.

Deleting files

Im assuming you want to delete browsing history. You can go to Internet options in the control panel and delete browsing history there but to completely remove history files you need to delete the index.dat file.

This file, if you're using windows XP can be found in different places:
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Cookies\index.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\index.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\History\History.IE5\MSHistXXXXXXXXXXX\index.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat
C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\UserData\index.dat
If you are using a different operating system, just search for index.dat and make note of the locations.

Once you've noted where the locations are you need to restart the computer and log in using safe mode. In safe mode pull up a cmd screen by going to start>run> then type cmd and hit enter.

In the cmd screen change directory by using the command cd C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\UserData for example and then del index.dat (to delete the index.dat file).

Restart and you're good to go.

How to scan picture to upload on computer

First, ensure you are connecting the scanner to your computer. I'm assuming USB connection, and that you're using an operating system supported by this device.

Next, install the drivers and software for this device. Those should have come with an installation disc, but if you don't have that disc, you can get them from the PIXMA MP830 support site, here:
http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&fcategoryid=123&modelid=12804

To scan a single document, place the document:
1. Place the document face down on the platen glass.
2. Open the MP Navigator 2.2 software.

I have a virus and stmanteec antivirus notification keeps popping up on my screen: What can I do??? Help Scan type: Auto-Protect Scan Event: Threat Found! Threat: Trojan.Zlob File: ...

If you have a virus you can not delete or if your system will not boot up correctly and you suspect a virus is the problem, a recommended solution is to start your computer in safe mode and run a virus scan. By running your computer in safe mode, non-essential processes do not start and non-core components are disabled. In other words, only the minimum necessary programs will load. Tough to remove viruses, spyware and other malware usually have no chance to run and disrupt your system and can more easily be removed.
**To run a virus scan in safe mode, you must have active anti virus software installed on your computer.
To run a virus scan in safe mode, follow these steps:
  1. If your computer is on, shut it down
  2. Power on your computer
  3. Immediately after you power on your computer, repeatedly press the [F8] key (about once per second)
  4. In the Windows Advanced Options Menu screen, use the arrows to select Safe Mode and presss [Enter]
  5. Select your current operating system and press [Enter]
  6. Select the user you would like to login under (if applicable)
  7. When your system finishes booting, click the Start button on your task bar
  8. Move your cursor over All Programs and navigate to your anti virus program
  9. Click on your antiv virus program to run it and follow the anti virus program’s normal steps to run a virus scan
  10. After the virus scan is complete, Delete all detected viruses
  11. Close out of your anti virus software
  12. Restart your computer (it should start in normal mode)

We have a canon MP610 printer scanner combo, I work in a dentist office and am trying to scan a x-ray. When I do it is'nt picking up the detail very well at all. I think I need to adjust the settings but I...

the only way to get a little more detail out of this printer with x-rays is to INCREASE the DPI resolution. there are no other adjustments that are abailable.
The Scan Settings dialog box opens when you click Specify... on the Scan/Import Documents or images screen.
The Scan Settings dialog box allows you to specify advanced settings for scanning.

Document Type
Select the type of document to be scanned. To scan photographs, select either Color Photo or Black and White Photo. To scan text documents, select either Color Document, Black and White Document, or Text(OCR). To scan magazines, select Magazine(Color).
Document Size
Select the size of document to be scanned.
Auto Detect: Detects document size automatically.
Auto Detect(Multiple Documents): Select this when scanning multiple documents at one time.
Select Stitch-assist to scan the left and right halves of a document separately and combine them back into one image.
Reference See the section below for details.
Scanning images Larger than the Platen (Stitch Assist)
When you select Custom, a dialog box in which you can specify the document size opens. Select a Unit, then enter the Width and Height and click OK.

Important When you select Auto Detect the position or size of the image may not be scanned correctly depending on the document. In such a case, specify the document size, such as A4 or Letter according to the document to be scanned, and align a corner of the document with the corner at the arrow of the platen.
When you select Auto Detect(Multiple Documents) allow 3/8 inches (1 cm) or more space between the edges of the platen and the document.
If not, some images may not be scanned at the correct positions and sizes.
You cannot select Auto Detect(Multiple Documents) or Auto Detect when Document Type is Text(OCR).
Scanning Resolution<<<<-------------------------------------------------------------<<<<<<<<<<
Select the resolution at which to scan documents. The following scanning resolution can be specified:
Text(OCR): 300dpi, 400dpi
Others: 75dpi, 100dpi, 150dpi, 200dpi, 300dpi, 400dpi, 600dpi
The higher the resolution (value), the more detail in your image; the lower the resolution (value), the less detail. At high resolution, scanning takes longer and file size becomes larger than usual. See the section below for details on resolution.
this should answer your question , feel free to post here agian if you need more help.
Regards, and thank you for using fixya.
