My camera will just shut itself down without warning, after a few seconds. I have switched the time-out setting to 2 minutes , to 5 minutes and to the off position and it still shuts down erratically, even with new batteries. I have tried cleaning the battery contacts, thinking that perhaps that's the problem, but it doesn't seem to help. I'm thinking that it may be a timer, but I don't know what it will entail to fix it. There's norhtin else wrong with the camera and I've had it three years and would like to use it for several more. If you have any answers, please let me know.
I think I Had that problem too. mine also quite suddenly started showing low battery even on new ones...
it seemed better with non-rechargeable types.
Now the reason I'm on this site is as the lens doesn't open.

remove the xdcard and use compact flash. also put camera in set mode and run the battery drain function. it seems to reset the battery voltage meter. clean batery contacts with q-tip and rubbing alcohol. worked for me
May not work on yours but I have (hopefully had) same issue. I found that it will stay on if you keep pressing shutter to focus or switch straight to video and record - it stays on until you finish recording. I don't know why but after I moved the focus switch from caf to manual, took a couple of pictures and put it back to caf it now stays on.
That was only yesterday though so I cant say its permanently fixed yet.
Hi. If your camera is turning on with the lens stuck out. Turn the camera on, and without turning it off, open the battery door, and take the batteries out. Leave it for about 1-2 minutes and try again. This process is call power reset. Usually works. Good Luck.
i think you have broken or bended any of the pin inside the card slot, and that is creating problem. Try looking in the card slot you may find any of the connector pin broken or bended. Try straighten the pin cautiously and may your machine start working .
