Exact same problem here, except that it bricked itself about a year ago for no apparent reason.
I hadn't used it for a couple of months, and one day I turned it on to find a black screen, and I searched for a solution for months, and finally conceded that I had a brick now instead of a camera.
Today I took it apart and pushed on all the ribbon cables I could see that related to the display, but I can't find my AC adapter so I can see if it worked yet.
If it worked, I'll let y'all know.
Well, I found the adapter, plugged it in, and now I have a white screen, where before I had a black screen.
Can't really say if this is an improvement...
I'll wait until the battery is charged to see if it's still a brick, eerrrr, paperweight. Exact same problem here, except that it bricked itself about a year ago for no apparent reason.

Re: camera not working
Could be back light has failed[ can you see any feint images at all?
Or a connector has come adrift
or a board failure of some kind.
If the camera if fairly new then get onto Gateway tech support.
If it has no warranty left -I fear the price of a repair will be more than the camera is worth
but you can try for a repair.

Hey roboticgirl, What is most likely causing this are the drivers that run the included software have either been accidentally deleted or they need to be updated. I would reinstall the software that came with the camera, or you could purchase a card reader and upload your pictures to your computer that way which should not require any drivers other than the ones in your operating system. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Allan Go Ahead. Use Us.
The lends on my camera will not open. The light comes on in the view screne and shows Error 3 on it. I have no idea what it means. What I meant is that it will not open is that the lends will not open out completly it opens to about a 1/4" to 3/8" and is stuck there. How can I get it to open completly or must I sent it to your shop to get open?
Hello: I have this Camera And i FIXED this issue today. There is a Firmware for the camera it is called dcj01x.bin I had to download it from a russian site. here is the download link http://www.rekam.ru/drivers/dcj01x.bin after you download it. format you SD card and put it on it. PRess the power button.. it will begin the firmware update.. 1st erase then, program, then verify. after all 3 are 100% let up the up arrow and cycle power. you'll see v.38 ... you now take faster clearer and YES every time pictures .... Defective mechanism, a stucked mechanism is present. camcorder are smart it can detects error and shuts down itself for safety. earlier models dominoes the defect if the user is not quick enough to react when something goes wrong with the camera. you need professional service to fix it .
