I would check that there is not a problem with the power supply to the set. If it gets hot and shuts of the power may be faulty and could be causing component failure.

Unplug the tv and hold the on/off switch on the tv (not remote) for 30 seconds. This should clear any power left in your electronic boards. Then plug it back in and try again.
