Canon optura 30 not ejecting tape

I have a canon optura 30. the tape will not eject. when i open the door, the tape rises up as it does when it gets ready to eject, but before it ejects it stalls out and then goes back down again. i replaced the battery with a new one. i have tried ejecting the tape with battery power as well as with the camera plugged into the charger

  • neonchrome Jan 10, 2009

i can't see if the tape is clean as it won't eject at all.

  • neonchrome Mar 29, 2009

i managed to get it to rewind all the way, but still no luck. the mechanism begins to eject but stalls out before pushing out the tape.

You have to to rewind them all the way. If you rewind them fully they eject If not, they stick.
Hopefully it will eject

Hi!
My guess is that the tape got wrapped around the capstan shaft so it can't be pulled back into the cassette so that it can be ejected. You will have to disassemble part of the camcorder and manually unwind the tape from around the shaft. Before working on it have a well lit work surface and use some good small tools.

Thanks

    Hi!

If its happening too often then might be a sign that the slip clutch on the take-up spool is slipping to soon i.e the clutch slips before it can eject the tape out maybe due to a foreign object or tape label came loose and is stuck inside.

Try to FF and RW the tapes so that if they are stuck tape would lossen up and come out.

Ensure that the cassette is "squeaky clean" before placing it in the camera. Even almost invisble specks of fluff will jam the whole eject mechanism.

This can be caused by several problems including a defective eject switch in the cameras internal circuitry or a bad motor and can usually be repaired fairly inexpensively. However, it's not a user serviceable problem and will need to be repaired qualified service technician.

Reads "eject tape" or "remove tape"

Theres been a failure in the drive system for the tape. Probably mechanical, so you woul need to take it in to get fixed.

A few times I've been able to resolve this by blowing compressed air in the frame and cleaning the head (if u can get to it)

    Tape deck won't eject tape

The tape might be wrapped around the head or the capstan. The mechanism is delicate so you risk more damage by trying yourself - check with some of the repair shops on the Fixya home page for prices to remove the tape.

    Cassette Jam

The most frequent cause of this type situation is not having a power source attached, or a depleted battery pack. Once the power source is available, some models require manually unlatching and opening the cassette compartment cover. When the cover is fully open, the videocassette will eject automatically. Please try the following procedures. 1. Attach the power source to the camcorder correctly or use a fully-charged battery pack. 2. Fully-open the cassette compartment cover until it stops while sliding and holding the OPEN/EJECT switch. The videocassette will eject automatically after a few seconds. If the videocassette still will not eject, seek assistance from a Canon Service Facility.
