I have a 1999 suburban with a 5.7 vortec the engine wont build rpm while moving,but revs freely in nuetral or park.If the computer senses movement in forward or reverse the engine misses such as a rev limiter would do.Even shifted into nuetral while rollig to see if engine would rev up.It wouldnt rev till vehicle completely stops then revs fine

shift linkage needs adjusting,,could be bent, easy fix, located along firewall to fram beneath the column, ask your son wut he ran over and didnt tell u about... hope i could help...:)

More than likely the forward clutches are burnt,causing the no forward movement problem.Remove the transmission dipstick and smell the fluid,if it smells like burnt coffee then you need the transmission rebuilt.

take the pan off and check the reverse boost valve clip on the front drum and make sure the clip did not pop out of the groove. thats usually the problem or it can be your sunshell that either cracked or something.
