Question about BenQ CRW 4012A (99.B9712.036) CD-RW Burner

1 Answer

CD/DVD burner I have a NEC ND 3550 CD?DVD burner. One day it was working fine and the next day it wouldn't read any disks, even those that it was reading the day before. I hadn't added or deleted any programs. I did try to upgrade the Firmware to no avail. Is this a burner problem or a computer problem? If I replace the burner will I still have the same problem? Thanks for your help.

Odds are it's the burner. I would try using a bootable cd like an os cd and seeing if it was detected outside of the os. That should tell you real quick if it's the burner or the os. Good luck.

Cannot play disks

There are 2 lasers, one for CD and one for DVD. Most likely, your DVD laser is not working right. The new firmware update only supported more media: http://www.techspot.com/drivers/driver/file/information/7669/ (link to update and details) DVD burners are cheap now a days (I just got a DVD lightscribe burner for $40 at CompUSA...Who is also going out of business)
