I had a very similar problem with mine... You are correct, it is the optic block.. it will cost about a $1000 or so to fix. I chose to fix my 60" because I absolutely love these TVs. The Technology may be older but they are still great!!!!! (i.e. Instant Picture...no refresh rate required!!!)

If you think you also have a dust issue just get a vacuum cleaner and clean the vents on the back of your TV. You can also remove the Front Panel... take out the lamp (make sure your TV is COLD!!!...trust me on this) and vacuum what you can making sure you do not touch the back mirrors (located where your lamp goes in). You should do this every time you change the lamp at a minimum.

Blue splotches appear on screen. not in any gemetric shape, but appear in same place.

sounds like your light engine is the problem. (optical block) there is a serious of light paths and your blue path is the problem. it can be the blue light filter or blue panel. sorry to bring bad news but this is not a DIY repair unless you are very good in electronics and light filtering plus panel aliment. plus finding those part is very hard. there are places that you can send the engine out to be rebuilt but they are expensive. (250-1000 dollars) sorry for the bad news. hope this help you out. heres more info at http://sites.google.com/site/sonylcdrptvproblems/sonyrearprojectionlcdtv-opticalblock ps i have been fighting this problem with my 60 inch.

Panasonic projector TV PT-43LC14 has a light yellow splotch on the left hand of the screen. Can this be fixed?

yes and no. it is a burn spot on the light filter on the blue lcd panel due to excessive dust and heat. panasonic does not sell individual parts of the optical engine, so you'll have to replace the entire engine. to avoid it happening again or getting worse, keep the projector cool and dust free. use canned air to blow it out.

No blue colors projected on screen

Only a few causes for this problem. "Splotches" are usually caused by dust in the light engine which can sometimes be blown out using compressed air. Pink picture is caused by either data or burnt lcd card. Procedure for data is: put tv to ch. 3 and turn power off. simultaneously press input and power on set for three seconds to access service menu. Be very careful not to change settings other than what needs changed. These adjustments are changed using directional arrows. Navigate to "memory init" then hold (r) arrow button for 5 seconds. You will know if it worked. Then exit and/or turn set off. Please let me know if this is successful as I have additional info you may need. Good luck, Russmann.
