My Badger 5 in sink erator is leaking at the bottom of the unit where the electrical wire is connecting to the metal plate. When turned on, there is a humming noise but the blades do not spin. I have tried the broom stick trick and it does make the blades spin but once turned off, I have the same problem again. So basically, I have a leaky erator at the bottom with "push to start" blades, LOL! Any suggestions before I replace this unit?

Thier is an Allen key hole at the very bottom and center of the badger. Try using that with an Allen key. And if it leaks your from where your wires are coming out of your seal is probably bad. Means new badger

Badger 5 leaking from body middle connection

1) Copy following link for troubleshoot and parts resources, and manuals with warranty information:
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-repair-and-install-Garbage-disposal.html

2) New unit would be best solution. And possibly cheapest solution. Otherwise you might be installing and un-installing more than once or twice ... which is fun if you have time, and other housemates don't mind kitchen project tools, water and mess.

3) If you can disassemble the disposal, you might be able to make your own gasket using kits and sealant from local auto parts .... assuming the metal was not mis-cast during manufacture and is warped so it never seals.

I have the Badger 5 in sink erator under sink food disposer and it is leaking from a small on the bottom of the unit. How can I repair the unit?

Disposal is rusted out and needs to be replaced.
If you plug the hole, the motor compartment will fill with water and short out the electric.
I wrote ez replacement steps from when I worked apartment maintenance:

My sink erator badger 5 is leaking at the bottom, should I replace it or try and stop the the leaking.

mine was leaking from bottom, dripping off power cord...pulled it apart..the pan that separates the water and food from the electric motor was developing pin holes from corrosion...I dont know that you can get this part...was thinking about tacking a small weld...but best off getting a new one...I am sure it has served...

Water drippinp from the bottom of badger 5

Check all of your seals. Wipe your hand all the way around your disposal to check for moisture running down. Pay close attention to the areas where there are seals, like the top where the main gasket is located and the side where your drain connects there are rubber gaskets that can begin to leak. Also check where the dishwasher drain connects if applicable. If all gasketed areas are ruled out than unit itself may be leaking and need to be replaced. I hope this helps.

In sink erator is leaking from bottom

I had this happen right before my disposal stopped working completely. Mine was leaking from the same place. The one I had was a 2 year Badger. They are easy to replace. If yours still works I would keep using it and just sit a pan down below to catch water. A new Badger 1 year cost $80 at Home Depot. If you get one, do not worry about buying extra gaskets or the black sink strainer thing because the new one will come with everything needed except for the plumbers putty. You will need plumbers putty. Good Luck

In sink erator leaking at bottom by electrical connection

I don't think it can be fixed by anyone other than the factory. I wanted to find a parts list so I could buy a seal that goes above the motor housing (which is where i think the problem really is) and repair it myself. I wish I had better news but since the leak is small and the motor still works, I'm going to keep a bucket beneath it and periodically empty it as recommended by a previous contributor.
