After almost 6 years of no problems all of the sudden my Samsung 42 in HCL552W got red lines all over the picture. The picture is blury and has a red tint to it. When we took the back off and put my hand in front of the red tube it cleared up. Is this going to be outragious to fix? Thanks

Re: red lines and strong red tint to picture
By placing your hand over the red lens you stop it's convergence with the other two colors by stopping it's light emmission. That tells you two things, (1) convergence of the red tube is way off; (2) it hasn't yet placed any load on the 20+/- supply line or the unit would be in shutdown.
You'll need to have the convergence amps replaced though. ICz103 and ICz104 are a Samsung p/n#BP13-00006A or the more common equivlent Sanyo STK394-250 and you'll need two of those.
Good idea to test and replace any of the feed resistors that may have changed in value also.
If any of this sounds complicated take it to a reputable shop. Most shops may have the parts on-hand and it's not too expensive a repair.
With the above info you'll at least be on some higher ground with the repair shops you call to see if they have the parts and how much they generally charge for convergence repair for your model.

Usually when you have a red tint when using the component input i'ts because the wires are switched on one end or one of the 3 video wires is bad. See if blue and green are switched.I see this all the time. Is your picture grainy on all input?
I would check the green signal all the wat to the display screen to determine is this is a signal problem or a system short. I would recommend that you take this set to a qualified electronics technician
