The sound switches from mono to stereo every few minutes and it's annoying. I heard that I"m supposed to turn the stereo decoder off but I don't know how to do that. Any solutions?

I have direct tv and no cable so I can't do that.

    It worked, thanks.

If your TV is connected to a Comcast cable box that has a volume control on it with its on screen volume at the top of the picture. Turn it up until the word "stereo" appears and then only use the TV's volume control. This should fix the problem and allow you to enjoy stereo audio.

Then to enjoy stereo audio, connect the Direct TV box using the composite jack and audio connections. On the TV it should be AVI,Input 1 etc. They will be Yellow (video) Red (right audio) and White (left audio). This will eleiminate the stereo decoder as it is not used on the inputs.

Sound changes will not stay on mono when changing channels.

The television probably has an auto detect in the sound circuit to detect stereo. There should be a way to turn that off in the set up menu.

Sound only from left front and right front speakers possibly my projection screen tv is only 2.1 channel does this mean i cannot have surround

surround receivers are supposed to be able to turn a stereo signal into a surround signal.  if the surround unit is producing just a stereo sound, then the tv is most likely outputting in mono, and not stereo; or there is no surround sound to decode..

Stereo/Mono Fluctuation Screen Display Problem

I had the same problem.

All I did was unplug the standard cable wire from my tv and used RCA cables to connect my TV to my digital cable box the the Input 1 jack in the back. It also increased the video quality.

Mono/stereo flashes in upper left tv

The mono/stereo is an indicator of the audio signal that the TV is outputing. Like most car radios, they have an indicator that tells you when a station in coming in clear, which may be just an LED or a light. When the signal is weak or when your on a non-stereo station the indicator will not be on. What signal are you providing to the TV? Cable, OTA, STB output??? low RF signal level could be the cause for this.

32" widescreen flat ilo tv

I have a 32" Initial which is an ILO with a name change. All I can do is turn it on and off. The volume and menu settings will not work. I have had it for about two months and now I am going to take it back to WalMart. The picture quality is great but it sucks that I can't change the volume or settings. I guess Sony will get my business now.
