Remove the old fuel from the tank. Change the gas filter if there is one. Get a can of spray carburetor cleaner and a can/bottle of fuel line cleaner. Spray carburetor cleaner in the carburetor where you put the gas ( remove the air cleaner) . Pour the fuel line cleaner in the gas tank with fresh gas and try to start the mower. Spary some carbuerator cleaner in the carburetor and try to start the mower a few times.

Masport 635 starts, revs up once, and dies. Will start again a few pulls later. Carb diaphragm has been replaced with no change. Could it be ignition? Thanks.

follow this steps and fix it. God bless you

Carburetor

If the lawn mower engine stops after a few seconds, the carburetor might be clogged or have bad fuel in the float bowl. If old fuel was left in the lawn mower for a long time some of the volatile ingredients may have evaporated, leaving a thicker, stickier product that is more like varnish or shellac. This sticky fuel can clog up the small jets and ports in the carburetor and it can be difficult to burn allowing the engine to only run for a few seconds. The only solution is to drain the old fuel from the float bowl and thoroughly clean the carburetor with carburetor cleaner. If that isn't effective, replace the entire carburetor.

Carburetor Kit

If the engine stops after a few seconds it may not be getting enough fuel. The engine needs air, fuel and spark to maintain operation. The carburetor has two inputs, fuel from the gas tank and air through the air filter. The carburetor is designed to mix the air and fuel in a consistent ratio so that the engine can run continuously. If the carburetor is not getting enough air or fuel, or if the fuel is blocked inside the carburetor the engine stops after a few seconds. Rebuild the carburetor with this carburetor kit.

Gas Cap

If the lawn mower engine stops after a few seconds and then stops running, the gas cap might be defective. All gas caps have a small vent to allow air back into the tank when the engine is running - otherwise as gas is drawn from the tank it would create a vacuum. The vent can be difficult to see and there are many different types of vent. If loosening the gas cap a little allows the engine to stay running, replace the gas cap. It's sometimes possible to clean the vent, but on most newer engines the vent cannot be cleaned, it should be replaced.

Gas Cap with Gauge

If the lawn mower engine stops after a few seconds and then stops running, the gas cap with gauge might be defective. It's sometimes possible to clean the vent, but on most newer engines the vent cannot be cleaned, it has to be replaced.

Old or Bad Gasoline

If the lawn mower stops after a few seconds, the carburetor might be clogged or have old or bad fuel in the float bowl. If old fuel was left in the lawn mower for a long time some of the volatile ingredients may have evaporated, leaving a thicker, stickier product that is more like varnish or shellac. This old or bad fuel can clog up the small jets and ports in the carburetor and it can be difficult to burn allowing the engine to only run for a few seconds. The only solution is to drain the old or bad fuel from the float bowl and thoroughly clean the carburetor with carburetor cleaner. If that isn't effective, replace the entire carburetor.

Spark Plug

If the lawn mower engine stops after a few seconds the spark plug might be defective. All small engines have an ignition coil. The coil is the device that provides spark for the spark plug(s). If the coil is bad there won't be spark to the plug(s). The coil is essentially a small, induction generator. It is mounted next to the flywheel. The flywheel has one or more strong, embedded magnets. As the flywheel spins, the magnet(s) zip past the induction coil, this action of a magnet passing past a coil induces a voltage. Depending on the design of the coil and the strength of the magnets, a stronger or weaker spark can be created and delivered to the spark plug(s). Each time the flywheel spins around a spark is generated. The best way to test a spark plug is to use a spark plug tester. The spark plug should have a strong, visible spark between the electrodes when the engine is cranking. If it doesn't, replace it.

My lawn mover starts and after 5 seconds suddenly dies

That is a little or no fuel situation. There is a passage clogged in the carb. Check to be sure fuel is getting to the carb from the tank. Check your fuel to make sure it is fresh ( no more than 10 days old) and has no water; then remove the carb and clean it again thouroughly. On the left side of the carb is a small black or white plastic cap. remove the cap and underneath you find the slotted head of a fixed jet. Remove the jet and be sure the openings are clear. Common condition for this time of year and also 1st mowing in the spring. Debris from the gasoline supply and tank has settled in the bowl or jets of the carburetor.

Float Bowl Carburetor; cleaning main jet
1) remove the float bowl retaining bolt
*this is the main jet ... very small hole in the center of the bolt allows fuel to enter the inside of the carburetor

2) blow air or spray carb cleaner thru the hole in the center of the bolt

3) additionaly you may want to use a small wire (called 'tag' wire) to clean the center hole

4) remove the bowl to drain fuel/debris

5) you may need to replace the gaskets/o-ring for the bowl nut and bowl to carburetor body

*NOTE: for the future and winter storage, a product called StaBil can be used in the fuel storage can all the time, it will help condition the fuel.

Will cleaning my Troy-Bilt TB25CS carburetor heal it?

Since the air from the air filter does not go through the carb, the carb cleaner will not either. If you remove the carb and spry all of it that you can get to, you may get the plug. If you were to open the carb and go through it and clean it you would need to get new gaskets and maybe that will do the job. You may be able to adjust the carb. There is a "hi" and "low" setting. Try adjusting the "hi"...Lee

Engine starts dies down immediately.fuel is ok spark plug ok

Most likely the carburetor is not ok. An engine does not just DIE. If you press the prime bulb, does fuel squirt in carb. If it starts the runs for about 3-5 seconds then dies, there is most likely a float or needle shut off problem. Or it could be as simple as a clogged carburetor. It only takes one tiny peice to clog one. Take the carb off and make sure all jets( small holes in carb) are clean. Mike. Rate 100% please.

Mover will start and run when primed, then dies out. Gas tank is full with new fresh gas.

clean the air cleaner, if clean you will need to remove the carburetor and clean all the jets out inside it. Keep the air cleaner clean to prevent this from happening

Stihl weed eater runs 2min. then stop

Stihl weedeater was running and stopped suddenly. Put in a new fuel filter and cleaner air filter with soap and water. Checked spark plug and it appeared fine. Started the weedeater, ran for a second or so and stopped. Spark plug wasn't gas fouled. Could it be the carburetor needing new diaphram gasket and spring.
