You probably just to need to re-install/update the firmware.
if you turn it on and just after the zen logo the little ahazard sign appears, it says something like "problem with firmware," that's your fix.
the same thing happened to me when i followed what it said on the site to troubleshoot the display, but they're all assholes and instead of fixing it, murdered the player.
oh, and be prepared to have everything on there erased.
yeah, it sucks :-(

I had the same problem....ok here's what you do, make sure the ZEN is off first then switch it on my pushing the switch down (like usual). So switch it on and press the play/pause button at the same time. It may take a couple of tries but after you get it, the screen will say "Recovery Mode" at the top. Now go down to "Clean Up" and click it. It will then ask, "Disk cleanup will be performed. Continue?" Click yes. When it's done, turn off the ZEN and turn it back on. Does it work!? Ha I'm a 13 year old genius.
The recovery tool mentioned above is not designed for the sleek photo. You need to download the firmware for the sleek photo from creative's site. Now we need to get your player recognized to get the firmware loaded. If you have Windows Media Player 11, it needs to be removed. Also remove WMP runtime. After that, restart the pc and your player should be recognized. You can then double click on the firmware program to run it. It might say something like, this firmaware is already installed...do you want to reload it? Click yes to reload.
I had the same problem with my sleek photo. Once I got rid of WMP and the runtime everything worked like a charm.
Hi! I think you should try this (i've already tried it and it works):
1- Unplug your Zen from your Computer.
2-Turn off your Zen (if you can't do it, press the "Reset" button)
3- BEFORE turning on your Zen, press your "Play" button and hold it while you turn on.
4-When a format menu appears, select the "Format All" option (you'll loose all your Zen data).
5-When the format menu reapears, select the "Reboot" option and listo!
You have your Zen as new and should not have problem. Good luck!
Have you tried to load the firmware? First you'll need to download the firmware to your PC from Creative's website: Click here. After you've downloaded it, connect your Zen via USB to your PC and open the firmware icon, then click "Upgrade."

The step-by-step process for doing the recovery mode is at Creative's website:
plug the player into a computer that has zen software and it should then come back out of recovery mode , try to stop player playing when you are finished with it so it doesnt keep going to recovery mode
