    I have a similar problem...

My SONY KE-P42M1 plasma has developed a fault that usually occurs several hours after switch-on. It usually manifests itself as flickering multi-coloured horizontal lines mixed with some static although sometimes this is accompanied by a pulsing strobe effect. It's almost like some kind of interference but it happens on all inputs from different sources.

Well... I think I may have a remedy for this problem. The symptoms seemed to suggest a problem with the video processing and as the fault usually appeared after several hours of the TV being on I suspected that a build up of heat might have been the issue.

To test the theory I pulled off the back to allow better ventilation to the electronics. This made little difference but when I directed a clip-on fan towards the video processing board the fault did not reoccur even after 12 hours of continuous use. I ran it like this for several days before deciding to fit a permanent fan to cool the video processing chips. I did have a 230V 120mm fan fed directly from the TV power supply (post switch on) but this proved too noisy and so I wired in a spare mains adapter to power a quieter PC fan. So far, so good.

It seems that on later models SONY actually included a fan for cooling... Did they know that board temperatures on earlier models were close to critical...?

WHY IS MY TELE FLICKERING?

Fault with the main power supply regulator board. Check and replace damaged component/s at its main power regulator [SMPS] section circuit. Contact any service technician. If you wish to get some details; check the site linked here. Surf the site with patience. Pull up older posts.

It will be best to replace the power supply regulator board as card basis rather than making "Surgery" to it; which usually will make loss for both money and time.

No sound or picture on a sony ke p42m1 tv

press power button, press menu button. do you get a menu? if so, might be loose connections or faulty ground lead connections. with power off, reseat (unplug one, plug back in, repeat on all connectors) connectors on all the boards (including speaker cables).

Then carefully, with the unit on, check all the ground cables to ensure they are all screwed in tightly.

If the television has a menu, there could be a problem with the input board itself. Might not be grounded, might be bad altogether. If it looks fried and smells fried, its probably fried.

Hi I have an itermittant problem with my KE-P42M1 sometimes it switches it's self on and off a number of times in a 10min period and sometimes it will run all day with no problems. It has been in the same...

Check CPC or Farnell for a power supply repair kit, normally they involve a bit of soldering and about 20 components like resistors caps and voltage regulators. they normally cost between 10-30 quid.

Good luck

Same problem with sony ke-p42m1

this might be a bad or temp sensetive tuner, why don't you try hooking up a dvd player to your video jacks and see if the problem is present while watching a dvd disc. If it doesn't then you may have to replace the small signal board(where the cable or sat feed hooks up to the tv).

Thin Black lines going down my screen, sony Wega Ke-42TS2

These sets are common for bad connections on the ribbon cables connecting the screen to the drive printed circuit board. Or the drive circuit could have a bad drive scan IC. I doubt that but possible. Your going to need to call an AUTHORIZED sony repair servicer to trouble shoot this for you cause any other shop may not have a clue of this problem. Good Luck
