I'm facing the same problem. The thin fluorescent tubes look exactly like LCD backlights.

Lamp code XL-2400 is Sony part number F93087500 and it is available on http://www.partstore.com/. You may also decide to purchase the less expensive Philips Lighting lamp part number F93087500RL. Either will work for your television set.
For a really good step by step with pictures guide to replace it go to

For a good place to purchase the lamp go to http://www.discount-merchant.com/Original-Zenith-Projection-LCD-TV-Replacement-Lamp-p /zenith_m52w56lcd_lamp.htm
I have found they have the best price on these replacement lamps. You might also check Ebay.
JKL Components was able to create a new bulb for me for Microtek 9800 XL with Transparency Adapter. If you have a different model might need to send the bulb so they can see if it needs to be modified. Worked perfectly. Call Larry: 818-896-0019 ext 124. Very nice, and very helpful
