SOURCE: SONY VAIO PCV V1G

Model:PCV-V1/G
Unplug everthing and place PC face down on bench with base over edge. Earth yourself.
Swing pc unit forward and unscrew the case retaining screw on both sides of the pc unit, swing unit other way and remove other two screws. Case can be loosened, pull large cover up and remove both sides. Parts are then exposed. A shiny metal box covers the memory on the left side of the PC unit. Remove tape that retains it,slide and lift off from the edge facing you.

Memory slots are then exposed....insert and reassemble PC.

Ten minutes tops....good luck, much better performance.

SOURCE: cpu fan control wont stop running

I had the same problem. Luckily, I found the "Sony Fan Control Driver" here:

Runs nice and quiet now!

Try this:
STEP 11
Lift up and remove notebook display panel.

Remove hard drive cover, memory cover and modem cover from the bottom of the notebook. Each cover is secured by one screw.
14-taking-apart-notebook.jpg STEP 13
Here’s how you can remove the hard drive. Remove four screws securing the hard drive caddy to the base assembly. Slide the hard drive down to disconnect it from the motherboard. Lift up and remove the hard drive.
15-taking-apart-notebook.jpg STEP 14
Removing memory modules (if needed). Carefully spread latches on both sides of the memory slot. The memory module will pop up at 30 degree angle. Pull the memory module from the slot by the edges.
Removing modem card (if needed). Remove two screws securing the modem card. Lift up the modem card to disconnect it from the motherboard and unplug cable from the side.

Hope this Helps

Ive upgraded my xp home edition sony vaio pcv-v1/G with windows vista home premium ....how do i get it back to xp it wont let me load xp back onto it since i upgraded thanks

Did you reformat the entire hard drive when you installed Vista? If you formatted the recovery partition you won't be able to go back without a Xp installation disc.

I am going to install 2 1gb ddr pc2700 in my sony PCV-V100G. After installing it do i have to do any thing after start computer. Or do i need reboot disc.

Just allow the BIOS to accept the new RAMS during the POST. If successful, a message will appear stating there has been a change in memory and it will say hit "F(x)" key to continue.
