Question about Sylvania 6842-PEM 42 in. EDTV-Ready Plasma Television

1 Answer

Flicker-Blinking on picture

My Sylvania 6842-PEM is a few days short of being 11 months old. Three days ago this problem started. Around 20-30 minutes after the unit is turned on (after being off for a number of hours) the display starts flickering/blinking. You see thin black horizontal lines & sometimes a wide white horizontal line. The intervals between flick/blink are a few seconds to a minute. After about 10 minute the problem stops. I have had the tv on for over 7 hours after the problem stops with no recurrences.

I have a Maxent 42-inch plasma (from Costco) which is about 3 1/2 years old.  It flickers and blinks for 10-15 minutes while warming up and is fine thereafter.  When I connect my Wii, the problem becomes back even though my TV is warmed up.  How can I fix this?

Too late now but I hope you had it serviced while it was still on parts warranty. With a couple of exceptions, service on those is by major pcb replacement.

No, it will not work (I tried it - twice!). Here is a link to the replacement part I used, and this fixed the problem - TV works great now.

Looking for info on Sylvania 6842 PEM

This RadioShack capacitor is no good - too low a voltage rating. Try replacing it with this one, or something with the same values:

This fix worked for me. Best of luck

Sylvania 6842-PEM Flickering Problem

Something is breaking down. Possibly a specific ceramic capacitor on the main power pcb that has been troublesome. Usually there is just a loud pop and the screen goes dead. If the set is less than a year old it is still on parts warranty and the technician could just change circuit boards until the problem is gone.

Sudden Power Loss

Most likely a problem on the sub-power pcb. If its under a year old it is still on parts warranty.
