I only use the webcam for Skype. Now the dumb thing won't be recognized. I uninstalled webcam and skype, unplugged the webcam. Reinstalled Skype and plugged back in webcam, it said it downloaded the driver. Skype used it for a minute, now the light is on constantly and Skype wont recognize, says cant find the webcam!! going to pull my hair out. Please help! Thanks
That is just an external web cam.
so what is it attached to, and what OS? XP ????
lost the install CD?
if you are internet connected
and running XP (?) XP download servers are now down
but luck happens,
click start, control panel if XP click system
the hardware then device manager.
IT the CAP will showup in Device manager, or as unknown
right click it and pick update
the review page i read says it's a 2008 cam.
HP ended support on it as did ARCsoft.
i see a video of a guy unboxing the HP tagged, ARCsoft cam
the bottom the box shows, for xp,vista. w7
try Arcsoft yet? (they say obsolete too now)
You will probably have to delete the driver from the driver property page. Then reboot the computer. Then make sure there's no driver listed. Then select up the driver. Select that you have the driver. Find a driver. Install.

You need to check the Video Settings in Skype.
Start Skype - click on Options - Video Settings, select the WEBcam that is is installed on the laptop (if it is not listed then the WEBcam driver is not installed) and under Automatically Receive Video from - select Anyone or Only people in my contact list.

Did you check the video input source configuration in Skype? Maybe you have a TV card as well, and that is configured as the default.
Another option is to use something like SplitCam.
