How much trouble do you want to go to?

If you just want to preserve the washing, then simply put it on another cycle tonight and that will keep it fresh until the callout turns up to fix it.

The next clever step is to power the machine off at the mains for 10 minutes. Depriving it of power MAY release the interlock door switch even if the cycle didnt.

Final attempt to get to it... Turn off power, unplug at the mains. drag the machine out so you can see the back. Remove the 2 screws that hold the top on, pull back or tap the top forward (depending on the model) to unclip it. Peer inside. You will see the door switch inside the chassis exactly in line with the door handle on the outside. See if you manually make the mechanism release, or if you have a stubby philips screwdriver, you can probably unscrew the switch complely.

If you trust yourself NEVER to open the door in the middle of a cycle, the machine will of course function without a switch. Just so long as you recognise that you will flood the place if you do open it with water in. Also if you put your hand inside dirung a wash (Or worse still a spin) the power of the motor combined with the weight of the wet washing will rip the arm clean off a fully grown man, so if you doubt yourself or you have kids (or kids may visit) don't leave it like this.

Thank you so much!!! My jeans were stuck in the door and the service guy couldn't come out until WEDNESDAY! Today is only Monday. Pulling the plug for 10 minutes released the door! Thank you again!

My washer door wouldn't open for 2 days. I tried what you said and unplugged it for 10 minutes. IT WORKED!!! The clothes were soaked, but I got them out. Then I cleaned the tub really good. Hopefully the next load will work fine. I love the internet!!!

You are awesome! My door wouldn't unlock and for some reason the spin cycle wasn't spinning. I unplugged the washer for 10 minutes. Plugged it back in and voila. It unlocked and opened. I gave the tub a few spins...said a little prayer... and shut the door and hit spin cycle and the spin cycle worked as well. I have learned that sometimes you don't ask questions of why, but to just go with it and that's what I'm doing. Thanks for your help...probably saved me some major bucks! :)

    Unplugging worked for me too.

OMG!!!!! I am so excited to call the repairman back and cancell the house call! Thank you Thank YOU!!!! The 10 minute unplug worked! My teenage daughter not only over filled it, but tried to stop it mid-cycle and must of over loaded the computer of what she wanted it to do? The ten minutes gave it time to stop and unprogram it's self. My washer wouldn't unlock the door or spin, it just kept filling with water and then stop. Now it's back to normal. Again Thank You!

Chris Hall > You da man! My 12-year-old son started a load (he and his 10-y-o brother have to do chores), got a warning of some sort and somehow over-rode the machine to start a load. Well, nothing washed - just like the case of other's here in this thread. I did the 10-minute unplug thing, and that did not work, even waiting overnight. I popped off the top, as you said. HERE'S THE IMPORTANT PART FOR OTHERS: The locking mechanism box has a slide switch that one can push to unlock the door. However, it would not work with the electrical plug out. I had to plug it back in and at the risk of being shocked (or killed), I got in there carefully and pushed the plastic, slide switch. POP! (not a shock but the familiar unlocking sound). The machine is cycling now and the clothes are thrashing about, as I type. Thank you again for the help, Chris!

Thanks to both Chris and Nick as your advice saved the day. I am not the kind of guy who calls a repair man unless I can't fix it first. Your post made it easy! Just one thing to add to what Nick said. First push the plastic slide switch and then put power back to the washer. This worked great for me and a little less danger I hope! Thanks again guys.

I have an Electrolux washing machine front loader and the door will not open after the washing has finished

Is the machine completely empty? Doors wont open as they can be hydraulically locked until the water is gone. Check the filter!. Some electrolux machines had a problem with mechanical door locks that wouldn't release - usually the cheaper machines. I used to fit a different style of lock to cure this, but you may only have a replacement of the same type.

Error code E40 on a Electrolux Front Loader Washing Machine EWF80743. What does it mean and how can I fix it?

E40 relates to door lock faulty or not closing - you probably need a new door lock, but check the catch on the door hasn't snapped off first. You will also get E40 if you try to start the machine with the door open.
