Dell D610 Latop screen wont resume after it has been shut

I have a Dell D610 and when I've finished using it I shut it down, normally once reopened the screen will resume and I can carry on as normal but now I have to reboot to get it to come back on.

Any ideas?

Sorry I don't mean i shut it down I mean i shut the lid!

  • PureNard Apr 05, 2009

I have the same problem and my settings are set to "do nothing" when lid is shut. I've even tried switching the power management settings to never shut down anything - hard drive or monitor - it's a a pain in the **** to say the least. Mine doesn't shut down completely though - when I push the power button, the computer shuts down and then I have to power up again.

a setting in your bios would determine what the laptop does when you close the lid... it would seem the setting is now to shut down the computer

Hi,
it is possible that the latch is sticking. located under the lid.
try pressing the small button, with a small blunt screwdriver.
Failing this, adjust the settings in My Computer/Control Panel/Display settings or Similar. If they,re adjusted to hibernate/sleep/shut-down computer, when i close the lid.
this is where the problem will be. Try changing to Do-Nothing or similar.

Thankyou For Using Fixya.

Remove password

If you are using WINXP, right click on the open desktop. From the pull-down menu, select PROPERTIES. From the PROPERTIES window, select the SCREEN SAVER tab. Uncheck the "On resume, password protect" check box. If you are using WIN 7, go to CONTROL PANEL, then APPEARANCE and PERSONALIZATION, then PERSONALIZATION. At the bottom, select SCREEN SAVER. In the SCREEN SAVER SETTINGS window, uncheck the "On resume, password protect" check box. This will allow you to wake up from screen saver without having to use password.

Keeps shutting down

hmm. Thats series of dells are known for a graphics chip malfunction (overheaing) But that might not be your issue. If you can get into it again, run a good antispy/malware program like malware bytes or spybot 2 or superantispyware.... if you cant get into the normal mode,, when it restarts, hit F8 repeatedly until the DOS like screen comes up. First try last known good configuration, then if not working, try safe mode and go to start then accessories then system tools then system restore. Choose a restore point before this occurred. This will put it back the way it was. If this don't work, try hooking up an external VGA monitor. If you still see no screen, then your motherboards video chip has burned out. They are (they being the motherboard with the working video chip) pretty cheap on ebay or amazon and with a bit of knowledge or a friend that does know, can be replaced returning you to what was. <:o)

My Dell Latitude D610 keeps shutting down

Get a can of compressed air and clean out all the vents and fans. You can also use a vacuum with a hose attachment to clean it. You also might want to get a laptop cooler.

I need to know how to reset my printer, I 've cleaned the pads, but nothing... Thank you in advance...

Power down the Canon Pixma IP4300. Once it has shut down, leave it off for a few moments.
Hold down both the "Resume" button and the "Power Button." When the printer begins to restart, release the "Resume" button but continue pressing "Power."
Push in the "Resume" button twice, then let go of both the buttons. In a moment, a green light flashes a few times.
Press the "Resume" button four times once the green flashing has finished.
Push the "Power" button again until the printer shuts down. Wait a few seconds, then press the power button again to restart the device. The Canon Pixma IP4300 will now function properly. for more information http://www.fixyourownprinter.com/forums/printer/67824 hope this helps you.

Dell latitude D610 laptop

You may be using the wrong USB port for the device.
Try disconnecting the USB device, restart the unit and use the rear USB port.
It sounds like you are having a conflict with one of your devices. example: using two mouse, USB2 device, running on a USB1 supported port, external Hard disk or drive setting not configured correct.

If you are still having problems, check the BIOS setting and reset to default. Save and restart unit.
Next, check your device manager for flags.
If you see anything outstanding, remove it and reboot.
Once completed, try the USB port and see if your device is usable.
Next time you may want to list the device and your operating system used, to help the tech understand your problems.
Hope this helps you.

Can't see the desktop screen after booting up. It's dark.

Load windows in safe mode by pressing F8 once it starts to load and selecting the 'safe mode' option. Once inside windows change your desktop resolution to something like 800X600 to keep it safe. Shut down and boot up properly, should load your desktop.
