I have a HPv165w 4GB pendrive...1.5 years old...I inserted the pendrive onto my PC...The icon in MY COMPUTER shows removable media(instead of the name i've given it)..I clicked on it to open and MY COMPUTER window became responsless...I removed the pendrive and system came to life again..I inserted the pendrive oncwe again..But instead of clicking on the icon in "Mycomputer"..I opened the device manager and checked the disk drives..I saw the name"hpv165w" indication that my pc has recognised it and opened its properties in device manager, which told that the device is working properly..So I opened My computer and saw the icon Removable media(j:),clicked on it and again the MY COMPUTER(not responding).....Pls tell a solution to this problem as fast as you can....
Did you give your computer enough time to read all the files on the drive? Vista and XP are notoriously slow at reading an external drive. It reads every file on it before it shows anything in the directory for the drive letter of the drive.
Try inserting the pen drive into another computer to see if you can open the data on this pen drive.
If not you may need to format the pen drive.
