GE Dryer GFDN110ELWW hums loudly and won't start

This usually means the motor start/run capacitor has failed. They are readily available, and look like this

A failed capacitor will have a split or bulged case, or a displaced end cap. Get one the same voltage and capacitance value, eg 440 VAC and 8 uF or whatever

your fuseable safety thermostat mounted on the rear inner wall of the unit open,on a GE these fuses open and it kills the whole units power its under the top cover and to the 2:00 position of the heating element,but if its new call for warranty service it shouldn't cost you anything if its under a year old

The fuse is located on the heater element which is bolted to the back wall behind the drum.

1. No power to the dryer
Make sure there's power getting to the dryer. Check for a tripped circuit breaker or a blown fuse. Check the wall socket for power with a voltmeter or by plugging something else in. Sometimes the power cord disconnects or burns at the dryer, if this is the case, the wiring and the terminal block must be repaired or replaced.

2. Door switch / Door switch actuator lever
The dryer would not start with a broken door switch. Replace the door switch if found defective.

Most dryers have a door switch actuator lever - when you close a dryer door, it presses against the lever, which actuates the door switch. If the lever is broken, the switch would not activate and the dryer would not start. Replace the lever, if broken.

Note: Door switch actuator lever usually comes with the door switch assembly and it is recommended to get the whole assembly since there is almost no price difference between the door switch assembly and just the lever. Sounds like the lint may have fallen into the fan and has jammed it. The motor will hum if that happens. Its an easy job to clean just take your time taking the blower cover off and reverse the process replacing it.

Try to turn the tub by hand, if it will not move or is real hard to turn, your motor may be locked down. They usually make a humming sound when you try to start.
