Why do I get a line of faint or no copying on the page?

When I copy I get good results on most of the page except for a vertical line which is blank. This blank line is about 1/2cm wide.

  • Anonymous Jun 04, 2007

The blank line runs from top to bottom of the A4 page and the paper travels through on portrait.

    Thanks.

Does this blank line run top-to-bottom or side-to-side, and which direction is the paper traveling through the machine, portrait or landscape?

Brother MFC-7820N Printer--vertical lines

You need to clean the scanner glass. Also known as the strip glass. It is a 1 inch wide strip of glass that runs from the front to the back. Your documents pass over this glass when they are scanned. Some of the wax crayon probably smeared off onto the glass and now when you scan the scanner sees these marks as stationary and thus records them as solid lines. Just look into the scanner section where your documents are fed in or depending on model, some are just to the left of the large original glass.
Good Luck and thank you for using Fixya.

NOTE: This article does not apply to most PSC products, to the Photosmart C6100 or C7200 series, or to the Photosmart Premium C309a and C309c All-in-Ones.If you are using a PSC product other than the PSC 2400 or 2500 series All-in-Ones, go to Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans (c01887564) (in English). If you are using a Photosmart Premium C6100 or C7200 series All-in-One, go to Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans (c00899181) (in English). If you are using a Photosmart Premium C309a or C309c All-in-One, go to Vertical Bands, Lines, or Streaks in Copies, Faxes, or Scans (c01622189) (in English). Solution one: Reset the All-in-One If there is static interference, or loose connections with the product, this can result in bands or lines in the copy, fax, or scan output. To resolve this issue, check the product connections and reset the product.
  1. Make sure the product is powered on, and then disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Disconnect the USB cable from the product, and then disconnect it from the computer.
  3. Reconnect the USB cable to the computer, and then reconnect it securely to the product.
  4. Disconnect the power cord from the wall outlet, and then reconnect it to the wall outlet.
  5. Reconnect the power cord to the product.
  6. Press the Power button (c01892763.gif ) to turn on the product.
  • If these steps resolved the issue , you do not need to continue troubleshooting.
  • If the issue persists , see the next solution.
Solution two: Clean the All-in-One and print a blank copy If the scanner glass or the white underside of the lid has fingerprints, smudges, lint, dust, or other debris, this can slow performance and affect copy and scan quality. To resolve this issue, clean the All-in-One. Before you begin, gather the following materials:
  • Several clean, soft, lint-free cloths
  • Mild glass cleaner
Step one: Clean the scanner glass and lid
  1. Press the Power button (c01892763.gif ) to turn off the product, and then disconnect the power cord from the product.
  2. Open the scanner lid. Figure 3: Open the scanner lidc01893292.gif
  3. Spray a clean, soft, lint-free cloth with mild glass cleaner.
  4. Wipe the scanner glass and the white underside of the scanner lid with the dampened cloth. Figure 4: Scanner glassc01893293.gif Figure 5: Scanner lidc01893294.gif
  5. Dry the scanner glass thoroughly with a clean, dry cloth, or chamois to prevent spotting, and then dry the white underside of the scanner lid.
  6. Close the scanner lid.
  7. Reconnect the power cord to the back of the product, and then press the Power or Start button (c01892763.gif ) to turn on the product.
Step two: Make a blank copy
  1. Remove any originals from the scanner glass.
  2. Load plain white paper in the input tray.
  3. Press Start Copy Black to make a blank copy.
If the copy is clean, there is no need to continue troubleshooting. If the copy has vertical bands, lines, or streaks, there might be dust inside the product, poor internal connections, or the product might be damaged. See the next solution. Solution three: Service the All-in-One If you have completed all the steps listed above and are still experiencing a problem, service the product. Causes
  • Static interference
  • Loose USB cable or power cord connection
  • Fingerprints, smudges, lint, or dust on the scanner glass
  • Dirt or debris on the scanner lid
  • Scratched or damaged scanner glass
  • Poor internal connections
  • Dirt or debris inside the product
  • Damaged or faulty scanner bulb or parts

Printer leaves white vertical lines on document

I dont know what kind of copier you have but white vertical lines are virtually always caused by a dirty charge corona. There is usually a little plastic handle, blue, green or grey, that cleans the charge corona.pull it out ONCE, push it back in and try another copy.If you have an operators manual, it should have instructions for cleaning the charge corona.Good Luck, O'scope

Error code F2-42

Are the lines horizontal or vertical? DO you get lines on B/W copies (black and white) also? If you try to copy a blank white page do you get the lines? Does the toner / lines wipe off after the copy comes out? If the toner wipes off after the copy comes out you have a problem in the fusing unit ( the hot area that fixes the image onto the page). If the lines are vertical then you have something inside the device that is dragging across the page as it goes through the device. If the lines are horizontal then you it could be the drum cleaning blade, the transport blade, or charge roller. The noise could be that one of the blades are bouncing. It could be that a gear is worn. Please give more info on the problem to better help.

Canon Pixma 750, works great, except that it will no longer copy.

Diamond,

You need to be more specific. Does nothing happen when you press the Copy button? Does it give you a blank page, a solid inked page, or no page for the copy? Do you get the same results for Color Copy or Black and White Copy?
