In order to set up an xbox live account you need a few things. First is an internet connection to the Xbox itself. Secondly is an email account, as you need this to set up the live account. To Set up an account on xboxlive
First you need to have a valid and active email address that need to associate to windows live,it is a requirement for every xbox's account online,but if you have a email yet,no need to worry because windows live can be a email,note if you have hotmail,live or MSN email no need to register the email for windows live because these are microsoft services,now for those who are not please follow these easy steps:

1. login to www.live.com on a computer
2. click on sign up
3. for those who havent got any email yet you can create an email but for those who has email already and they want to use their own personal email please click the link that say: " Or Use your own e-mail address ".
4.please provide your information,and also please provide a alternate email address,now for those who don't have a alternate e-mail address,please click the link that say: " Or choose a security question for password reset". This is for requesting of password reset just in case you forgotten the password for the email.

Now, if you have done these steps,let's proceed in creating an account.
on your xbox 360 please go to the dashboard screen and go to " my xbox" option and then select profile as you can see there is shadow figure of a person but soon after you created a profile that shadow figure will be a yourself cartoon.then select join xbox live,it will ask for name and profile name,note name is different from your profile name,profile name is also called gamertag,this will be your name on every game that you will played online and offline,then it will ask for your e-mail and password and it will also ask you to choose a membership rate note you need a credit card for this,but for those who has a prepaid card gold subscription,please select you are not interested (I'll include the instruction on the last part) then it will ask you to create a avatar,remember the shadow figure that you see on your screen before you create an account,this will be it,so you will design your avatar the way you want to be after you create the account you now have a xbox live account.

For those who use prepaid subscription,once you have created the account please follow these simple steps:
1.press the guide button (silver button on the controller)
2.go to "Marketplace" blade
3.select the option "redeem code"
4. Enter the 25 prepaid code
then there you have a gold subscription/membership,

Now,if your have hard time redeeming the code,please go to the website www.xbox.com,then sign in (sign in logo can be seen at the upper part of the website in line with marketplace),once you have sign in,click the marketplace link,once it open you will see my account option,hi-light the my account and you will see a option for redeem code,you can redeem the code here.

Just to let you know the subscription code for the xbox is not for free.

You will need to go to your nearest retail store, for example ( Walmart, Bestbuy, Target, Blockbuster )

Or you can purchase the subscription on your xbox 360 dashboard using a credit card.

It depends how much will you purchase the card

It includes the following denomination:

1 month gold subscription - for $7.99

3 month gold subscription

12 month gold - for $49.99

You will have to purchase a subscription code
I'm not sure if you can get them at retail stores, but they are available on Ebay. Don't get the ones that state theya re for xbox live gold membership.
You can also get the xbox live starter pack which includes 3 months xbox live and a headset (that is if you can still find them, again ebay is a great starting place)

you should be able to either call xbox or email them the problem and they will be able to help you, you just bought the 3 month subscription I believe and if it isn't working, then it is there problem, that you need them to fix, maybe give you a different code
