Lens Cap off but saying it's on and the LCD screen is black

Every time I turn on my camcorder, the lens cap note stays on even when I take it off and the LCD screen is black but the settings are viewable on the LCD screen. It's as if the lens isn't working. Any quick and easy way to fix this. We live in a rural area with no camera shops and I need my recorder. We've tried reseting the camera, everything. Anyone have this problem and been able to fix it on their own before. Please advise. Kendra

Apparently this same problem exists on many different models. I have a JVC grd72u. I called JVC @ 800-252-5722. I selected the "Corrective Action Program" prompt from the automated attendent. I spoke to a customer service rep. They are aware of the problem and are fixing it for free, but only until 12/31/07. I suggest you call ASAP and get your name in the computer. If the problem is something besides the CCD sensor, they will call you with the estimate to repair.

Warm the camera using a Hair Dryer, and check it may do some magic.

Lens cap?

Try removing the battery, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. That may reset the lens cap sensor.
