No surround sound when watching cable tv programs.

When I am watching cable tv and go through the surround sound system, it does not play surround. If I watch a dvd movie it does work. I can not find my manual to see if I am doing something wrong. Any help would be appreciated.

Same problem, someone told me tonight that I also need red and white cables going from the t.v. BACK into the DVD player>>>?? Does that sound right? I have yet to try it......

I am hhaving a very similar problem. I have already tried to use the "standard" red and white cable, and I am able to get sound out of all six speakers. The only proble is that the sound is stereo and not surround. My tv (Mitshubishi DLP) states in the manual that it's output will only produce stereo and not suround sound.

I have attempted to take my sound directly from the cable box and still am not able to recieve surround sound using either the coax or optical digital inputs on the Koss. I am unsure if the unit is incapable of actually receiving digital audio.

I am going to try a few more combinations with the controls and see if that works. If I am sucessful I will post my solution. If you don't see a post within two weeks, then you know that I have purchased a second Phillips unit ( The first has been in use for more than a year without any problems at all).

Looks like cable is not sending the full whack of audio data only Stereo. Or if they are then the set top box{is that how it works in the States?] has a fault. Check out the cable co support team.

I can't get the surround sound to work while watching tv. The audio works when I play a DVD, but I can't get it to work while watching tv.

make sure the program you're watching is surround encoded, otherwise you will just get L/R or mono audio ;-)

I have rca home theater system rtd215 plays dvds fine but no sound when im watching tv programs i have no cable box just the jacks on my tv [52 projection screen phillips] and i tried hooking them into the...

This reson you are not hearing any "TV AUDIO" through your RCA surround system would be due to your tv sound output not being connected to an audio input into your surround system. You can hear DVDs,CDs and radio possibly mp3 if connected, as these are built in to the amplifier which the speakers connect to.
If the tv has a Line out (via phono plugs) and NOT via headphone out, connect it to an audio input on the RCA surround system. If the RCA has no other available inputs, well....there ain't a lot you can do but watch CSI with the sound from the TV and then Star Wars (for example) through the TV and Surround system.

My surround sound will not work through the TV, only the DVD

If your tv and surround has an optical input/output.Then you can connect with an optical lead. This will then play the sound from whatever you are watching. You normaly select dig1 or input1 on the surround system.

Surround sound ok whilst playing dvd but not working for tv

On your Sagem TV you should have two RCA ouputs (red and white connection usually marked ouput) ) Connect these to the input on the surround system using the interlink cable.

You should then be able to hear the sound from the TV by changing the SOURCE on the home cinema remote.

Better still if you have a digital out on your TV use that instead.

Surround Sound Not Playing For TV Programs

Greetings jdm12,

I can understand your problem, I have some what of the same issues with my home theater setup when watching events. One of the only suggestions I can make is adjusting the "Dolby Pro Logic II Mode". After reviewing your owners manual it appears you should be able to change the mode by pressing the PL II Mode button found in the lower keypad on your remote. It appears the options you should have are Music - Cinema - Pro Logic - Matrix - Stereo. You may want to try Music or Stereo when watching your events. In Stereo setting it should provide sound out of the front speakers and sub-woofer only. In Music, there are more processing that is done so you could hear more then just the front speakers.

I hope this makes your next your next PPV Party a big hit!

How do I get my tv to play through the surround sound

If you have direct cable into the television, you will need to use an audio output if available on the back of your set into your HT system.

If you are using cable w/ a cable box you have two options. You can still connect everything directly into the TV then reroute the audio to the HT system... or, you could hook only video to the TV and audio from the cable box to the HT system. Really up to you.

How to get sound through speakers with tv and not just dvds

Just wire your TV audio out to one of the receivers (DVD player) audio in and select AUX when you want the TV sound to play through the surround sound. You also might want to turn the volume down or off on your TV to get the full surround sound feeling, but that's your call.
