I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.
I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.
So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.
Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.
As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.
You are probably using the wrong batteries. I had the same problem. In fact I posted a thing on here. Anyways, we started using Lithium batteries which are recomended for this type of camera, and I strongly suggest it, because we tried them and the work! I hope it works for you too! :-)
We have just developed the very same problem with our digimax s700, it doesnt stay on long enough to look at memory or battery data and the screen doesnt come on anyway...when u switch it on the little green power light comes on it beeps three times and then switches off again

Re: it dont turn on
Check the manual to sure that this type of error is not listed.
Check that memory card is inserted correctly.
If you can before it shuts off try the menu button and if successful- look for RESET.

Well, have you ever considered that the lenses MIGHT be defected? If it's true, you can send it back to the manufacturer, as long as it wasn't YOU who made it defected. Another tip, is maybe the lens isn't made for that type of camera. Lastly, the lens can just be broken, so you should carefully examine it, and see INSIDE of it, to make sure all of the parts are their. Hope this helps (:
Everytime I try to turn it on, the lens comes out for about a second,
the camera beeps 3 times, the lens retracts and the camera shuts off.
The battery is completely charged and the camera is only 4 months old.
sounds like a lens error, does the lens extend or retract? You probably have to get the lens back on track, use gentle pressure wiht the camera face down on a towel covered table and turn on to see if the camera tries to retract the lens. I really dislike these types of cameras that extend the lens everytime, if it turns on in your pocket, your doomed!
My Samsung S500 kept shutting down (with lens extended but no beeping) as soon as it was turned on. After reading similar problems being caused by a jammed lens mechanism, I GENTLY twisted & tugged the extended lens mechanism (no crude comments please), and it worked the next time it was turned on.
Mine got stuck with lens out. The batteries were new so I never imagined it could be the batteries, but they were cheap ones so I recharged a pair of good ones and once I put tried them on it worked just fine again. Conclusion, the "new" cheap batteries had only enough energy to turn it on and then they couldn't give it enough energy to make it work anymore and that's why I couldn't retract the lens or even turn it off properly. So in your case, try using a couple of good and new batteries.
Use lithium batteries. I had a problem when our camera would turn on for a few seconds, beep 3 times, and then shut off. The best batteries, which are actually recomended for this camera is the lithium batteries. I strongly suggest them.
