I have a Samsung Digimax S500 and every time i try to turn it on it turns on, but after that it beeps 3 times and it shuts off, the lens stay in their place.
I had the same problem. Try to turn it on, 3 beeps and then it would shut down. Screen would come on for that time. Also, the lens was stuck open. It wouldn't close.
I twisted the lens (gently) and it appeared stuck. A gentle screw motioned seemed to free it. I hit the power button and it come on, but this time no 3 beeps and shut down. I then turned it off and this time the lens retracted and closed.
So, it appears that if the lens gets stuck open, it has a shut down feature that doesn't allow the camera to go further into its operation modes. I believe this stuck open problem occured on our camera when the batteries went low.
Again, a second of gentle twisting seemed to unstick it and with fresh batteries in, it was able to operate and shut down properly.
As far as batteries, I use the rechargeable Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They last a while.
Blessings to you!

My camera (Samsung Digimax S700) had the same problem. The lens was stuck open. I would hit the power button and it would turn on briefly, beep 3 times and shut down. The lens would not retract and close.
I put fresh batteries in and it still did the same thing.
What fixed it was what another person said earlier. I gently twisted the lens and it seemed to "unstick". The next time I turned it on it stayed on. Also, when I turned it off, the lens retracted and closed.
Hypothesis: There seems to be a shut down feature if the lens doesn't work freely. We ran the batteries down, so that may have something to do with the lens sticking in the open position.
Also, we use the Ni-Cad 2500 mA. They hold a long charge and work well with the camera.
Hope this helps. Blessings to you!

You are probably using the wrong batteries. I had the same problem. In fact I posted a thing on here. Anyways, we started using Lithium batteries which are recomended for this type of camera, and I strongly suggest it, because we tried them and the work! I hope it works for you too! :-)

Check the manual to sure that this type of error is not listed. Check that memory card is inserted correctly. If you can before it shuts off try the menu button and if successful- look for RESET. Do get onto the Samsung web site technical Support

Well it wont run with out a memory card thats for syre
Can you test the memory card in another camera to check that it is viable or obtain[borrow] cnother card to check that it is not the card causing the faulting?
Failing that take it back to the shop to see if they can checkit out for you.
Internal memory!!
How does the camera switch to the card when the internal memory is full do you have to switch manually or is it automatic?
Consider this- if the internal memory is full then maybe what you are getting is shut down.Clear the internal memory.

How come your brother is using the camera if it wont work?
Something you are not telling me here?
this is going to be a repair shop job- unless you discover some reason for the beeps in the manual- check out the more comprehensive manual on the CD

S700 Camera won't turn on. Comes on briefly and then beeps three times and turns off.
the camera wont turn on at all
My camera wil turn on without the memory card but not with it!
We turn the camera on, and then it will be on for a few seconds, and then it beeps three times. After that it will turn off. We can't figure out what's wrong.
When I want to turn on the camera it doesn't turn on or open the lens, all it does is beep 3 times and shuts off. The memory card was remove to see if that was the problem and it wasn't. Than we put the memory card back in to see if it would work again and all it did was beep 3 times. Please HELP me fix it.
Thank you,
Mrs. Lester
