My 3 year old Viking refrigerator starting making really loud noises today...what can I do avoid a repair bill???

If the loud noises sound like a fan blade hitting ice you have a defrosting problem.

You can try unpluging the unit removing the contents then doing a manual defrost with a fan blowing into the unit for a bit over 2 hours then restarting the unit to see if the noise has ceased.

If it is a noise associated with the compressor you can try pushing it gently in it's floating mounts to try and reposition the unit so the vibration absorbers are functioning properly again.

Lastly if it is the condensor fan making noises break out the crevice tool and remove the lint from the coils. If you have pets this is very important.

Sadly if the problem repeats in less than a week after doing the above the dreaded serviceman / repair visit will be required to islolate the cause or source.

Hi, my refrigerator is making a loud noise and it stops and starts about every 12 minutes. It is cooling fine. Can you help me? It is a side-by-side model that is only 4 years old. Thanks. This problem...

Good day,
Open the freezer door, and see if you can hear the fan motor, that is located behind the rear panel.
If it's the source of the noise, then you will have to remove the rear panel to access the fan motor.
If not, go to the back bottom of the machine, remove the back cover and see if the cooling fan motor that cools the condenser and compressor s working properly.
If it's alright, then it will probably be a problem with the compressor itself.
STOP !! The compressor has one year left on it's warranty.
Call your selling dealer for warranty service. This is an expensive repair and altering the machine can void the factory warranty.

Refrigerator not cooling...makes hissing noise

From your problem description I would say it sounds like maybe the condenser fan is not running. If that fan does not run, the compressor will overheat, and get very unhappy, LOUDLY. There is a fiberboard cover on the back of the unit, unplug the unit, remove the cover and inspect the fan, it should turn freely if you nudge it with your finger. If it does not turn freely, you will need to make it so by lube, removing foreign object (dead mouse once for me) dust dragons etc... or replace the fan if necessary.

REFRIGERATOR IS MAKING A BUZZING SOUND, not cooling

You have one of two problems going on. Your fan is spinning at hitting the sides. Or your compressor is shot which seems to be more the problem and even though it is cold the humming sound is a warning for you that the compressor is shot and it is more affordable to replace the fridge then the compressor. Sometimes compressor can cost more then the fridge.

Kitchenaid refrigerator stopped cooling

Yes, it will cost you at least $150.00 for a repair tech to walk to your house, but your case sounds like your motor had problem, When the motor running loudly for several weeks, because it lack Freon R-22, that why made a loudty noise, some place is leaking very slowly, your compressor need freon. I think it is going to cost you at least several hundred to repair it, but if you can find a used working Reg.probably you can save some money.

Please ask your friend who might give you some their opions.
