Play the video on your through your recorder if possible, then record it that way. It works for me. Just go to your watch tv setting and record it off channel three while the vcr plays the video.

Can't record tv shows

I'm afraid that the manual for this unit is a little dense.
Now that the digital conversion is imminent, nothing will ever be simple again.
This is not the ONLY way to record with this machine, but here is one way: (I'm also assuming that you have a cable or satellite BOX - if you don't, let me know):
1. Connect a red, white, and yellow cable from a red/white/yellow OUT of your cable or satellite box to the Video IN and Audio IN of the Magnavox.
2. Connect a second red, white, and yellow cable from the Video and Audio OUT of the Magnavox to a red/white/yellow IN of your TV (most TV's only have INs and not OUTs, hence they may be unmarked either way - but this situation is rapidly changing).
3. Change your TV to the channel that corresponds to the red/white/yellow port - some TV's label it "AV1," "AV2" etc. - others label it "Video1", "Aux 1" etc. - I would have to know the exact model # of your TV to be sure.
4. As long as you can see the channel that you are trying to record on the TV screen, you can just press REC on the Magnavox with a blank DVD inserted.

Like I said, this is not the ONLY way, but it is probably the simplest.

NOT ABLE TO RECORD

Key thing to remember when recording anything is the following: 1.  Color to color on the back of the machine      Video -yellow      Sound - White and red 2. Make sure your source is output and the recorder is input. 3. Be sure that it is original content that you are trying to record ie make sure you are recording from a VHS that is "Kids do Beauty and the Beast for 5th grade play" and not "Disney Beauty and The Beast"

VCR WON'T RECORD

you may have the outputs hooked up correctly however you may need to set the inputs to the selected type of cable you are using. S video 1 cable or video input witch is an rca adapter yellow in color. you will find these setting in the "setup section" on the remote set up button will get you there and then input or source.

Recording Snow

If you hook your VCR up to the RCA jacks on the front of the DVD recorder, push 002 on the remote to use the front input jacks. (001 if you hook your VCR up to the rear input jacks)

Push record on the DVD recorder, and push Play on the VCR.
(Pg. 35 in the manual)

When you push play on the VCR, you should be able to see the movie being played on your TV. If you cannot, make sure your RCA cables are good and hooked up correctly.

That's all you have to do, so if it's not recording I would try to take the unit back for an exchange.
