Compaq IJ650 ink jet printer will not print color.

Just installed this product new. Brand new color and black cartridges- both properly installed. Printer will not print color. I should add that it isn't printing what should be in color in black- it just isn't printing it at all. I tried a test page I made in Word that had the words 'hi there' written in black, red and green. Only the black line printed. It's doing this in all apps. What is wrong?

Where are these preferences? I clicked everything under the control panel/printers tab that should be clicked. I don't see an option for monochrome or anything..........

OK I just removed the black cartridge altogether to see what would happen. I removed it both physically and through cartridge preferences. It sounded like it was printing from the color cartridge, but nothing came out on the paper. It went through all the motions and everything, but it is blank. What the heck is going on?

Let me also say I removed the color cartridge and cleaned the contact area with alcohol. Blue dye residue remained on the cotton swab but it isn't leaving any marks at all on the paper...................... uuugggghhh

Just because it’s new does not mean New Old Stock. Your print head is plugged. No if or buts about it. Contact HP and tell them you situation. If they don’t help you, box it up and take it back. Buy an Epson.

Hi
I have checked 5 sites selling ink cartridges - original and compatible - including Amazon and Ebuyer, and they all appear to have the products you need. I give below the sites concerned:
Search results for lexmark 16
or
Lexmark 16 26 Black Colour 2 Printer Ink Cartridges for Compaq IJ650 IJ652...
or
Compaq IJ650 Ink Cartridges
I can not find any alternatives except the compatibles listed on these sites.
Hope this is helpful, if so would you please register that with Fixya
Cheers

Step one: Complete the alignment process If you have already installed new print cartridges, follow these steps to complete the alignment process.
  1. After installing a new print cartridge, wait at least 20 seconds for the print cartridge alignment process to start.
  2. Wait for the print cartridge alignment process to fully complete.
  3. Make sure that the alignment page has printed on plain, white paper that has no other printing on it. If you need to create a new alignment page, load the tray with letter or A4 unused plain white paper and turn the product off and on again to create the page.
If an alignment page does not print when the product is turned on or off, the issue is resolved. Colored Ink problem

Make sure the printer settings are set properly to print in color on the PC. Even if there is a color cartridge, if the PC only tells it to print black ink it's not going to use the color cartridge.

IJ650 Printer will not work

Its not detecting the new cartriges for some reason.. Silly Question?? Did you pull off the blue tape tab off the new cartrige before installing them?? Oh ok If you did then you might wanna very carefully with the unit unpluged is to clean the copper colored contacts on the printer itself with a small amount of alcohol and let dry completely before you use it and see if that helps and if it dosent Im sorry to say its not worth taking in to be servived as a compadable puter printer can be bought here for under 50 bucks.. Good Luck
