Need software to run on vista 64bit

Hi all, I've got a Sony superstation External Tape Drive backup unit. I need the software to make it run on Windows Vista. I have some data on tapes I'd like to retrieve from tapes I backed up on when I had a Win98 system. I've moved in the past year after losing almost everything and I only have the drive and no CD to load software from. Thanx for any help Jon Henry

If you need to run windows98 in order to access the tape drive get a copy of VMWare server version 1.08 or lesser but not the 2.00 is free.
Under windows xp install the software and create a new virtual machine and load windows 98. I have not tried this for your tape drive but I had a similar problem with a software that will not run under windows xp and i needed to retrieve some information from a scsi tape drive.
i hope this helps.

Vista has issues re drivers for older stuff The best you can do is seek out an older machine[a friends] and get the stuff off onto CD.

Hi Is there any way to change the external tape drive to flash for backup software.

You always can change from tape to any other system, but a tape can be read in any drive after more than 30 years. using a hard disk, will end its usage when there is only the slightest defect.

PC w/ Vista. Can add 2nd drive with Win 7 and transfer all data & programs?

Try and get a disc clone software and use this instead.
Second, you need to set the jumper on the hard discs in order to configure your drives as either Master or Slave too.

How to use the superstation 10gb with XP? Can you use this tape backup with XP?

Sony does not support this configuration, the last OS they supported for this is Win 98. It is doubtful that any of the generic drivers that come with XP will work with the drive.

Same problem with my MPF82E

Hi,
You see floppy drives are pretty old technology compared to the Vista environment which is the latest. Your floppy external drive will most likely run better in the Windows XP environment along with the necessary drivers on device manager under control panel...and those drivers you can also download. Am sure it will work better with windows 98 or XP.

Thanks & Kind Regards

Software for the western digital elite hdd when using vista 64bit

What kind of software are you looking for? This should be automatically recognized by Vista as an external storage device. If it is not recognized and you cannot see/use the device; you need a driver to allow vista to talk with your USB device. Are you looking for backup software? Please clarify.

Did you load software ? You have a 64 bit Operating System (OS) and MANY companies don't make 64bit software. 95% of PCs are 32 bit. This is same problem other external drive makers are having, Vista 64 bit was sold as "typical" PC when it's for very powerful users. Many "drivers" that talk to the equipment must be written for 64bit software. Check the companie's site to see if it's VISTA 64 bit compatible. Bet it's not ! !

SONY TSL-S9000L error message

Hi RIO,
I need a little more information to better assist you with your problem. What Operating System are you running and how old is this unit?
Is this the first time you are using this device?
Also look at the event viewer for info on the actual error, which could help to better explain what the problem might be.
