Hi all, I've got a Sony superstation External Tape Drive backup unit. I need the software to make it run on Windows Vista. I have some data on tapes I'd like to retrieve from tapes I backed up on when I had a Win98 system. I've moved in the past year after losing almost everything and I only have the drive and no CD to load software from. Thanx for any help Jon Henry
If you need to run windows98 in order to access the tape drive get a copy of VMWare server version 1.08 or lesser but not the 2.00 is free.
Under windows xp install the software and create a new virtual machine and load windows 98. I have not tried this for your tape drive but I had a similar problem with a software that will not run under windows xp and i needed to retrieve some information from a scsi tape drive.
i hope this helps.
Vista has issues re drivers for older stuff The best you can do is seek out an older machine[a friends] and get the stuff off onto CD.

Would it be possible to partition off a part of my current 160GB drive and run win98 on it in order to access some peripherals whose driveer are not Vista compatible?
Thanx for all your help
I found the old setup CD that came with the backup drive, and got another PC that runs XP pro, but the old software still wont run on even XP. Going to try your suggestion at pcadvisor.co.uk Thanx for the assit. God bless
