I have a 2 handset Uniden phone system and a vTech ia5823. Recently (within the last few weeks) the vTech has started acting funny. Sometimes it doesn't ring at all, sometimes it rings "late". Lately it won't let me dial out. I begin dialing the phone number (area code first) and before I finish dialing the exchange I hear the message from the phone company "We're sorry. Your call cannot be completed as dialed..." I can immediately pick up one of the Uniden handsets and dial the same number (at the same speed) and it will work fine. Has anyone else experienced this problem?
Yes, I have had nothing but trouble with my V-Tech ia5823.
Slow to dial, dropping out going calls and now the base light is flashing at a rapid pace and will not charge the handset.
I want to return it to Wal-Mart but have misplaced the recepit.
I will never buy another V-Tech..Uniden is the way to go!

You have unheard messages on the voicemail system provided by your telephone company. This system records messages when someone calls while you're already on the phone. Please contact your telephone company for instructions on accessing their voicemail system.
On the base, open the menu and select Register Handset. The display should say Handset Registering. On the handset you want to register, press and hold # until the handset display says Handset Registering (about 2 seconds). 1. 2. DSL filterTelephone cordTelephone wall jack 45 In about 30 seconds, the handset display should say Registration Complete. Press Talk/fl ash and make sure you get a dial tone. If... Try... you don't hear a dial tone the display says Registration Failed -- Making sure the handset is fully charged, then start over at step 1.
I had the same problem as long as they are plugged in correctly and you put the #2 handset into the #1 cradle to register it to your base then try hanging the phone up several times. These are expandable phones so that I believe you can keep adding other handsets. So sometimes they think you have a few more handsets than you really have so when you hang up it may not know what handset you are hanging up #1 #2 or #3 #4 etc. So I had to keep hanging them up until it finally hung up. Then I had to re install them so it knew I only had 2 hand sets. So then you start from the beginning, like when you took it from the packaging. I hate these phones. I ended up replacing them with different ones. Plus I always keep a rotery phone laying around put away because during a power outage you still can plug in an old dial phone and it will work! Nothing like old technology.
call your new service provider and they will ask you a few questions to make sure it is the owner of the account.... then they will give you the pin number... i would suggest changing it to something you are familiar with the first time you access it.
It sounds like the dial pad has built up carbon on the circuit board. If possible, disassemble the handset, and clean the circuit board below the dial pad with alcohol. Denatured alcohol works best. also, clean the back of the dial pad itself.

handset will be assigned the lowest extension number not previously
assigned to another system handset (1-4) when successfully registered.
Repeat Steps 1 and 2 if the handset does not successfully register to
the telephone base within two minutes.
