I have a NFREN 17" TFT monitor which I bought with my computer in early 2003. Earlier this week I switched everything on and all was as normal, I left the room for a couple of minutes and returned to find my monitor was displaying a completely white screen. I had to turn the computer off at the back as I couldn't see to shut down properly. I have tried switching my computer on several times since then but have the same result everytime. Do I need to buy a new monitor or is it something else?

Hi Gaz, First, verify the monitor is functional. Monitor STFC (Self Test Feature Check) Turn off the monitor Plug the monitor power cord directly into the wall socket to remove any surge protectors or APCs from the troubleshooting equation Unplug the monitor video cable from the back of the computer Turn on the monitor The floating dialog box should appear on screen against a black background. If the issue appears during the STFC, the monitor is defective. What are the results please?
The LCD and or the LCD inverted has failed. it is an unfortunate fact of life that nowdays it is cheaper to replace that monitor that to aquire parts for repair
The clipping sound is the internal safety switch that keep shutting down the monitor. It means there is an internal problem on the main board (overvoltage, bad component , short). Try unplugging power cord and leaving it unplugged two or three hours, this will reset ICs by draining power completely from circuits, it is called hard reset, it rarely works. CRT monitors waste up to 15 times more energy than TFT screen, if your CRT starts giving troubles, then it is a good time for upgrading it to a new TFT. 17'' start at $120
you have snap frame around the screen itself use flat screw driver fine edge, theres about four locations that snap into slots work them away and remove frame, then remove screws on back will seperate ,you will have to remove monitor button panel board to, once inside, four screws around screen itself once in side, this will lead you to power connection inside main screen frame, the board and the connections
