OK I know whats wrong with this one, because my cmaera did the same thing. The outside shutter in the lens opens, right? Well, the inside shutter is stuck. Its staying shut. Take the camera apart(or if you dont feel comfortable doing it yourself, take it to a expert)and tap the side gently, it should fix itslef like that. If not, its the same problme, but you'll have to take it in somewhere.

Lumix DMC FZ35 Lens Opens and Retracts Continually When Turning the Camera on.

it sounds like it has slipped a gear in the lens.. you could try to manually push the lens in when it comes out and that might reset it but it also might break it.. best is to send it back to panasonic.. is a easy fix

I may not have enough information for this... how ever, let us try. And I am not sure which one you are talking about, maybe both at times?
Does the camera play back files correctly and can be seen on the LCD?
If the first, then some problem exists with the lens. This camera then needs repair.
If no screen on the LCD, then repair is recommended.

In both cases, it seems the camera is in need of repair.
Because this camera is a few years old, I recommend to sell it for parts and as is on a site such as Ebay.

Lens Error!

Hi onikaassing, A very common problem in all the brands "lens error". The remedy is that you have to replace the lens block assembly. Actueally the sled motor start malfunctioning, Contact nikon service centre maybe they have the component level repair facility which can reduce the repair cost. Thanks for using fixya.

Lens Error

This is probably THE most common failure among digital cameras. There's a halfway chance of fixing it yourself, described here: http://camerarepair.blogspot.com/2007/12/fixing-lens-error-on-digital-camera.html

Lens error

This lens is in need of repair, though contrary to what some of the people on this site will say, paying $150 for a lens repair is completely unnecessary.
Usually a problem like what you are having is just a realignment and cleaning of the lens and gears. This in itself is a relatively cheap repair ($50-$75) Sometimes however, the plastic housing covering the lens itself gets damaged, or the lens twists inside the housing, which many times can require purchasing a new lens (this will run $150 or so).
