When i power up the camera, the display shows everything out of focus. If i try to zoom in, the camera beeps at me 3 times then shuts down (similar to having no battery power, yet the batteries are fully charged and almost brand new). I havent dropped the camera, and its been sitting on a shelf so no chance of it being knocked either. Any suggestions for recovery? luckily i got insurance so i will replace if nessecary.
Thanks in advance

If your camera is still under warenty here is number of the repair center in Ca. 310 632-1234. Have model number and serial of camera at hand. They may have you go on line to their web site http://www.samsungcamerausa.com/ and fill out a repair request.
Forewarned :I purchaced a L85 new before
Thanksgiving and it did not work out of the box at all. Sent in camera and it was returned on Dec. 20th. I sent the battery with camera and none was returned. After buying another battery and charging, to my frustration the camera worked only enough to extend the lens and flash the LCD screen and that's it. I am trying to get an exchange from seller but am not to confident this is going to happen. Lots of emails back and forth but no progress.
Hope you have better luck then I am having.

Now something that will actually help you.
1) the reason this is most likely happening is that the lens is blocked.
how i fixed this was (I'm not kidding) I hit mine against a card board box. and that dislodged the lens, now it works. you can also just try taking it apart and cleaning it. that gave me an electric shock so be careful.
hope I helped you.
PS "you might need an idiot to do this for you. no kidding."

okay i had same problem and simple solution is ur batteries conked out i know u think im stating obvious but the batteries u put in whether u replaced em or not r bad there empty basicaly and hav only a bit left to make light flash a bit so replace em with sum new decent batteries or a difernt brand of batteries coz it could be ur camera (my camera ses low even when the batteries r new on some brands and fine with others)

If indeed the batteries are brand new and without a doubt charged,
then you definitely have a hardware problem in the camera.
You're probably going to have to give it in to be serviced.
Hope I helped!
