Hi, I have dell inspiron 640m laptop.It worked properly.By mistake it was broken.From there i am able to see properly only half of the screen and half of the screen is blue.Is this only screen problem or anything else? If i replace screen with new one wil it work? What is the exact problem?

If you go to Microsofts web site and choose updates, you may well find it isn't needed at all. Did your sound stop working? If it did got to Dell.com and update the drivers from there.

try hitting the F8 button as it starts to boot you should get a screen with several options see if it will go into SAFE MODE or Last Known good Settings that worked try safe mode first,,,,,Good Luck

turn off comp then press "D" and power button to perform built in self test. connect external monitor hten press "Fn" and "F8" to toggle video from LCD to external monitor and vice versa.

Possible only 2 solutions 1,the inverter has gone out and the othere is a replacement screen!

If you Dell 640m is still under warranty you can call up DELL technical support they will replace it for free. You will need to provide the laptops service tag it is a 7 alpha numeric code with number 1 as the ending from here they will know if the system is under warranty, If your system is not anymore qulified for a warranty they will suggest that you get in touch with their OWR (Out of Warranty) service from this department they will be the one to quote how much the LCD will cost also the labor charge if you opt to get their service with an OnSite technician to install the LCD.

By the way have you tried to attach a good working CRT or external monitor and then check if the same thing happens if it does then it is not the LCD that is broken it's the video/graphics card, regarding your issue there are two points of failure the LCD and the Video/Graphics card. So it is better to make sure we do this necessary steps to better isolate the issue.

Please try these first, then you can go for a replacement, if these don't help
