Hi Tamatha, This is a USB device. So I will assume you are using Windows XP? If so, try this (ensuring you have the Brother drivers cd first). Disconnect the USB cable from your pc, then: 1. Go to Start 2. Click on Settings 3. Click on Printers 4. FInd your Brother printer and fax icons 5. Highlight these icons and delete them 6. Reboot your pc 7. When windows comes back to the desktop, plug the printers USB cable back into your pc 8. Switch the printer on 9. A message should pop up on the pc screen stating that a new device has been found 10. IF this message pops up, ignore it 11. Put the Borther cd into your cd rom drive and load the software. It will find the printer and install the drivers Hopefully that should work! If not, give me a shout :) Jay

Changed the ink cartridge and now the printer doesn't recognize the computer. It says the printer is idle. What do I do?

A quick fix for most communication errors can be achieved by resetting the printer and/or rebooting the PC. Simply disconnect the printer from your computer (if USB connected)> reboot your pc > unplug and re-plug the printer into the power source to reset it. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to your computer (if USB connected). Then try to print again once the computer fully recognizes the USB connection or when the WiFi light on the printer turns solid green (if WiFi connected.).

If that doesn't help, try the steps below:

  1. Disconnect the USB cable connecting the printer from your computer.
  2. On your computer, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes.
  3. Delete the Lexmark print object.
  4. Reboot computer.
  5. Re-brick your printer by pulling out the power supply - black box where the power cord is plugged into on the back of the printer, and re-plug after 30 seconds.
  6. When the printer turns on, reconnect it to the computer.
  7. Wait until your computer fully recognizes the USB connection. To check, go to Control Panel > Printers and Faxes. If you see a new Lexmark print object in the list, try to print a document to verify that the problem is fixed.

My computer does not recognize my printer

Hi,

Your problem is very common and don't worry for this. First check the USB cable or try to connect with a new cable. If it doesn't help you then check settings printer and faxes in control panel. Make the printer online from settings. You can reload the driver.

I cannot get my fax to work. I recently changed computers. It prints fine

Sounds like your new computer is not recognizing the fax.

Go to: start>controlpanel>printers/faxes

There you will see an option to add a fax printer.

Add your fax there.

If your fax is not listed as an option to add, the drivers for it with need to be downloaded of the installation disk.

If you have no disc, the drivers can be obtained through the Brother web page as per below:

For additional assistance, consult both the Help program in your computer of the start button again, and your fax manual.

Should you have no manual, check this site for a downlodable manual for your fax, or visit the Brother home page for links to support/troubleshooting and customer service.
