Frozen Scanner! I have my 9800XL connected to a G5 2Ghz PPC by a firewire connection. Normally when I switch on it goes through the setting up procedure, this week however when I switch it on ... nothing! It appears as if is stuck or frozen. No noise or movement from the ccd. It was working one day and not the next. SilverFast via Photoshop give me an error message saying it can't find the scanner. I tried it with ScanWizard and the same thing happens. I emailed Microtek and they suggested disconecting the TMA but, no difference. Has anyone any ideas? Thanks

Thanks for you reply. I checked the transport lock and it was off. I'd tried reinstalling software and that didn't work. But leaving it over the weekend seems to have done the trick! It's come back online now. Strange! It still sounds odd on start up so I think it's still got a problem. As for your firewire question I was given the option of SCSI, USB or firewire when I ordered it and I had more firewire ports available. I didn't have to do anything different.

    Thanks again for you help.

Try tossing it off the roof of your house. That really made me feel better, then I went out and got an HP that works great.

Check the the transport lock has not come on. Unload the software and reinstall What do you have to do to direct it through Firewire and not USB Check that is is correct.

Is the scanner visible in Device Manager? If not you have a hardware or connection issue.

Is the connection USB or network? If network have you checked TCP/IP settings? If USB are the USB items OK in Device manager?

Is it an old scanner connected to a new Windows version such as Win7. Some old scanners are not compatible.
