Probably not. There will b some sort of fuel transfer system (called a puddle trap) built into the motor to move excess fuel from the bottom of the engine to the top which should keep that cylinder from hydro locking from excessive fuel.

I would just change that spark plug and take the engine for a run.

No damage but clean or replace the plug !
While your there check all plugs sparking and condition and see what compressions are and log it down ! when your running the engine pull each plug cap and see if all cylinders working ! Go play

SOURCE: i have just bought a boat with an old Mercury 500

if you have no spark at your spark plugs then you have to check if your coil is getting power and if it is sending out power. find your distributor and the centre plug wire and follow itto a 6-7 inch cylinder, that will be your coil. take a test light and ground it on the engine and touch the positive side of your coil with the need tip of your test light, if it lights then you have power getting to it, in that case the coil isnt sending any power to your distributor, take your coil and get a new one and try that. Make sure you hook up the wires the same way on the new one or you might have to y another one.....goodluck....cal in nova scotia

SOURCE: I have a 1994 mercury 90 2 stroke . I have

Have you checked the "Fuel Pressure Regulator", the ethanol in gas these days can cause the tubes to swell and crack... also the little diaphram inside the regulator can get stuck causing the motor to bog down under a load. if you have a book you can locate it. if not you can likely go to Boats.net and enter your motors serial number to seek out parts and it will usually take you to different schematics and diagrams for each part.

I have a Mercury 115 four stroke and did all of the same things that you did... spent upwards of $1,000.00. to do a maintenance overhaul and it still bogged down when i got up around 2800 to 3100 RPM. it turned out to be an $85 part and about 45 minutes to change out my Fuel Pressure Regulator. Its worth a shot!

2002 Evinrude 25hp 3cyl 4 stroke does not seem to peek rpm & speed

Prolly a dead cylinder , on dry land run the motor with water supply of course . Remove the engine cover and start the motor, with spark plug boot pliers or similar tool start removing the spark plug boots one at a time . If you notice a difference when one is unplugged that's the working clyinder. Do this to all 3 when you find the cylinder that makes no noticeable difference when it's unplugged you found part of the issue. Bad plug bad plug wire , bad coil ect . Good luck

2004 chrysler van 3.8 motor replaced coil pack still doesnt fire number 4 cylinder

If the coil pack has a four wire connector, one wire is primary voltage, the other three wires are ground, one ground for each coil, one coil fires two spark plugs. If problem with coil or ground, you would lose spark for two spark plugs. Did you visually check for spark, everywhere? What about the spark plug wire or the spark plug, itself?

Have 115 Hp mercury outboard motor missing at full throttle and on idle. At mid throttle it is running fine. Any Idea what the problem could be. Thanks, Milton

Have your spark plugs changed AND carbs cleaned and adjusted.
Usually that can also be caused by a seized advance system ( plate under the flywheel, commanded to turn with the throttle linkage... )

2004 mercury 40hp 2 stroke will not start. Fire to the brand new spark plugs. Turns over strong. just no internal combustion. Seems like it's missing the internal "boom" to ignite. Carbs are clean....

if you have spark at the plugs there is a complete ignition circuit for it to start
fuel is the question --are the plugs wet or dry
dry plugs indicate no fuel
wet plugs indicate flooding
inside these motors there are reed valves that open on induction and close for the compression stroke so the mixture is pushed into the combustion chamber
these reed valves fail and the mixture is swapped between cylinders in the inlet manifold hence no combustion mixture for the cylinders

2004 Kia Optima runs on only three cylinders

Only need three things to run. Fuel, spark and compression. If you have spark and injector pulse you might want to compression test the suspect cylinder. A leak down test with compressed air with the adjacent spark plug(s) removed wouldn't hurt either to verify no bad head gasket. Good luck

I need to know the timing sequence for a 1998 Mercury Mystique 2 liter

ignition timing or valve timing?

ignition timing not setable.

info:
The ignition system consists of an ignition coil, spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The crankshaft position sensor signal is the basis for ignition timing calculations. The alternating voltage signal from the crankshaft position sensor is digitized by the powertrain control module. This digitized signal is then used to position the closing time of the primary circuit of the ignition coil.
Ignition angle is determined by the powertrain control module in response to engine operating conditions. Once ignition angle has been determined, the powertrain control module interrupts the current to the primary circuit of the ignition coil thus triggering the ignition spark which is supplied to the cylinders through the spark plug wires and spark plugs.
The ignition coils are triggered by the powertrain control module in pairs (cylinders 1 and 4 and cylinders 3 and 2) sending one ignition spark to the firing cylinder and one ignition spark to the corresponding cylinder on the exhaust stroke. This make sures that any unburnt fuel residues remaining in the cylinder on the exhaust stroke are re - ignited to provide cleaner exhaust emissions.

Weak Spark on #1 Cylinder

I'm getting real suspicious of EGR valve fault. For now, pull vacuum line off valve, and see if there is vacuum at idle, plus see if engine straightens out, when line off, idle wise.

Did you try swapping plugs & wire with another good cylinder. Maybe bad plug or wire, even though check says wire good.
